1922 JUN 07 CC MIN136 D E1 Segundo, C al. Juno, 7th, 1922. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo, California, was called to order at 7:30 o'clock P. I.T. on the above date in the Council Chamber of the City hall by 71illiam C. Bryson, President of the Board. ROLL CALL. Trustees Present: Davis, R ueger,S miley and Bryson. Trustees Absent: Binder. RL','=NG OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS =TING . The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 31st day of Iw!ay, were read without error or omission being noted and it was moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley that they be approved as read. Carried. Vi—RITTEN CO? iITITI CATIONS . The following; communications were read and disposed of as indicated PACIFIC rOST NO. 38, Al=PRICAN LEGION, requesting permission to use the City Hall Auditorium mn June 10th, 1922, for the purpose of giving a dance. Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that this permission be granted. Carried. PACIFIC POST NO. ?gage of advertising in a Bulletin to be issued by Trustee Smiley, seconded be adopted: 38, IMRICAI, 12GION, soliciting an order for 2. special edition of the American Legion '�i eeh-ly the local post on June 30th, 1922. Moved by by Trustee Rueger, that the following resolution "RESOLVED, Thet the e::?enditure of not to exceed $120.00 is hereby authorized for a full page City of-El Segundo advertisement in the special edition of the American Legion Weekly Bulletin to be issued June 30th, 1922, and that the preparation of the copy for such advertisement be and the same is hereby placed in the hands of Trustee Davis ". AYE, seeking employment records of the City for the fiscal year offering to do such work for the sum of Smiley and Bryson. as auditor of the official ending June 30th, 1922, and ,;.80.00. Ordered filed. IT. A. I�ILLA��.D, seeking the aid of the Doard in procuring a street running easterly and westerly through Block 95, said letter being accompanied by a petition signed by several persons owing property in said block. Following brief discussion it was moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the petition be referred back to fir. Millard for the purpose of having the necessary signatures appended to the same. Carried. Trustee Binder appeared at this point and took his seat, the hour being 7:45 o' clock P. I1. ORAL COInG.,MI U CATI ONS . City Marshal George A. Kidwell inquired if any arrangements had been made for providing a dog pound. Following discussion it was moved 1 =- ..0137 by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley that the Marshal interview Mr. A. T. Miller for the purpose of ascertaining whether or not some arrangement might be made with him to care for impounded dogs and that the Marshal report back to the Board. Carried. REPORTS OF STANDING C012 ITTERS . Trustee Rueger reported that a cr,rpenter is remodeling the doors of the entrance to the fire engine room. Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee reported that Fire Chief MicConnell has been using considerable of his own spare time in getting accurate data on the fire hydrants for which the City pays a regular monthly rental, finding that they are not of uniform size, have broken threads, some are without stems, and he suggested that the Street Department be authorized to assist in completing the work. By general. consent Trustee Davis was instructed to confer with the Fire Chief and the Street Superintendent with the idea of making satisfactory arrangements. Trustee Davis also reported that the auxiliary fire hose cart located on the alley in the rear of the premises formerly occupied by fir. Max Thornburg is not equipped with nozzle, spanner wrenches or gaskets. By general consent he was instructed to take the matter up with the Fire Chief, it being understood that the needs could be supplied from the fire engine room. REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SrECIAL COM19ITTEES . The City Attorney* ex:lained briefly the intent of and the necessary action to be taken in the matter of a subpoena recently served upon the Board through its President. It was moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the City Attorney of the City Of E1 Segundo be and he is hereby authorized to make appearance and file answer in the case of Duke, et al vs. Barnum, et al, No. 104419, in the Superior Court of the County of Los Angeles. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson. Noes: None. Absent: None. None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. PAYING BILLS. TToved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Binder, that the E1 Segundo Grammar School be permitted to use the surplus chairs of the City on the evening of June 8th, 192ti. Carried. Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the E1 Segundo Grammar School be permitted to use the banquet equipment of the City sufficient to serve eighty -four persons on the evening of June 10th, 1922, providing such equipment is checked out by the janitor and safe return of the articles taken guaranteed. Carried. The City Clerk advised the Board that Mr. Smith, Manager of the acific Telephone & Telegraph Company was unable to appear before the Board personally this date and had asked him to inform the Board that the local telephone exchange will be in operation about August 15th, 1922; also that within the next few days their representatives will be soliciting subscribers throughout the city and that they are anxious to get as many subscribers as possible signed up for telephones at this time, so that they may be guided in the erection of their poles and lines. Trustee Rueger advised that the Fraternal Hall Association of El Segundo had granted permission for the erection of the 211urdripal band stand on their property at the Northeast corner of Grand Avenue and Richmond Street and that the same could be moved at any time. TItoved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the Street Superintendent of the City of E1 Segundo be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to clean weeds from the property at the Northeast corner of Grand Avenue and Richmond Street and to remove the Municipal band stand from its present location to this site and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to request the Southern California Edison Company to make all necessary electrical connections. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson. Noes: None. Absent: None. No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting, it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
