The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
PETiTIOV OF B. F. REJFRO and others, requesting improvement of the
alley in islock 45 of the city of ,�l Segundo. Moved by Trustee Smiley,
seconded by Trustee itueger, that the following resolution be adopted:
dHERE, S, it appears that certain residents and
property owners of the City of z1 Segundo are
willing to pay certain moneys in the sum of
$96.83 into the Treasury of the amity of E1
Segundo, California, and into the general r,und
thereof, for the purpose of causing certain street
improvements within said city to be made, and,
WHEREAS, said sum has been deposited with the
City clerk of said pity with instructions to pay
the same into said Ueneral .bind upon the adoption
of the following:
NOW THMz;FURE, BE IT RESULVED: That the Street
Superintendent be and he is hereby authorized
and instructed to cause the portion of that
certain public street within the amity of E1
Segundo, known as Alley between Concord and
Virginia Street, from urand to Holly Avenue, to
be improved by the construction therein of the
following improvement, to -wit: a rock and oil
improvement similar in character to improvement
made in alley between virginia and dhiting Streets,
from Grand to Holly avenue."

iii. oearl McAllister of the &lectric chop showed the Doard some
electric lamp cord which he recently removed from a building, this
lamp cord having been used to furnish electricity for lighting a porch
and two bath roo*s.
Fire ., hief C. K. McConnell advised the Doard that he had requested
a number of the merchants to clean up the ground surrounding their
premises and to refrain from building fires in close proximity to
buildings in mire District No. 1. He reported receiving promises of a
clean -up and the finding of a disposition on the part of the merchants to
cooperate.

Trustee Binder of the Public 4orks committee reported having
investigated the request for street lights at five corners in the
Northeast section of the city, finding that all requested were needed,
as well as one each at the corners of eucalyptus Drive and uollingwood
Street, and jheldon and �,ollingwood zotreets.

Southern California vdison company to install, as an addition to the
existing street lighting contract between the City of L1 Segundo and

Trustee binder of the eublic iiorks committee reported in
connection with the request to include the east and west sides of
Virginia street from Balm Avenue to uollingwood street in mire
District No. 2, that it was the belief of his committee and he
thought of the entire Board, that this be done. It was suggested

that when the ordinance is amended to accomplish this purpose, the
district east of Kain Street and between P &lm Avenue and Pine Avenue,
which through the petition of George Duncan and others requested
inclusion in Fire District No. 2, be so included. Following which,
it was moved by Trustee - Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the
City Bngineer be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to furnish
the City Attorney such descriptions, information and data as will
enable him to draft an ordinance amending Jrdinance No. 31 of the City
of El Segundo, changing the boundaries of fire districts within said
city, so as to conform to the desires of the Board of Trustees as
expressed in this and former resolution. Carried by the following

Trustee Rueger of the Public Works Committee reported that the
Street Superintendent had oiled Virginia Street from Grand Avenue
to El Segundo- Avenue and that he has about completed the improvement
at present contemplated for said street.
Trustee Smiley inquired as to the painting of the post in the
intersection of Grand Avenue and Main Street, stating that it should
be )ainted white for the purpose of visibility at night. Moved by
Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the Street Superintendent
be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to paint or to have
painted with zinc white paint, the post situated in the center of the
intersection at Grand Avenue and i.ain Street. Carried by the following
vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, U-avis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.

The City Attorney advised the Board that he has not yet been
furnished with a description of the new fire districts recommended by
the Board. It was moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee
Smiley, that the City Clerk communicate with the City engineer,
authorizing him to employ some competent person to prepare the des-

criptions of the new fire districts of the City of El Segundo to be
furnished to the City Attorney and to perform such other engineering
service as recommended by the 3oard of Trustees which is at present
incomplete. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.

Absent: None.
The City Attorney reported in re the contest of increase in fares
by the Pacific Electric Railway Company, that the City Attorneys
Association is having a meeting this night in Los Angeles to formulate
definite action and he desired to know to what extent the Board of
Trustees desired him to act on behalf of the City of E1 Segundo. By
general consent he was instructed to.cooperate with other cities, so
as to present El Segundo`s grievances to the Railroad Commission.
The City Clerk on behalf of the City Engineer, who could not be
present owing to illness, drew the attention of the Board to the fact
that sidewalk and curb stakes recently set in the west side of Bonita
Vista Avenue bet-ween Palm and :.aple Avenues, were set to conform to
the contour of the existing improved roadway and not in accordance
with the official grade as established by ordinance of the City of
E1 Segundo. The probability of future damage to persons constructing
sidewalks °and curbs according to the stakes as set was discussed,
following which it was moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee
Smiley, that the City Engineer be and he is hereby authorized and
instructed to prepare and furnish to the City Attorney such information
and data as will enable him to prepare proceedings necessary for a
change in the previously established grade of Bonita Vista Avenue
between Palm and -aple Avenues. Carried by the following vote:

NEN BUSINESS.
The local Masonic Lodge requested permission to use the City
Nall Auditorium on the evening of January 30th, 1922. Moved by Trustee
Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that this permission be granted
and that the customary rental charge of 03.76 be made therefor.
Carried.
Trustee Davis drew attention to the danger to pedestrians who

walk over the Coast Boulevard hill from P.1 Segundo to the beach,
suggesting that the City of Los Angeles be requested to erect signs
of some nature warning either pedestrians or motorists to be cautious.
Discussion ensued, terminating in a motion by Trustee Davis, seconded
by Trustee Smiley, referring the matter to the 2ublic Works Committee
with power to act. motion carried.
Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley that the
Chairman of the Board of Trustees be empowered to look into the
matter of prices and delivery on rock used by the Street Superintendent.
Carried.
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee informed the Board
that the Police Department was in need of additional equipment in
the way of handcuffs and clubs, relating a recent occurrence in which
the absence of this equipment was apparent. Trustee Bryson
supplemented the statement with the request that the city equip
itself with a number of sawed -off shotguns and rifles as other cities
are equipped for emergencies which might arise. it was moved by
Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that the City Clerk be
instructed to procure prices on necessary equipment and submit the
same to the Board. Carried.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
meeting adjourn. Carried.
