A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of yl Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. on the above date
in the Council Chamber of the City Hall by William C. Bryson, President
of the Board.

Trustees Present: Binder, Davis, Smiley, Rueger and Bryson.
Trustees Absent: None.
READING OF MINUTES OF 2R :VI OUS ;a = TINS.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 1st day of February,
1922 were read. No errors or omissions being noted, it was moved by
Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Davis, that they be approved as read.
Carried.
WRITTEN COirTa'UNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
M. L. kcCRAY, President El Segundo Water Company, a letter quoting
a price of D79,000.00, plus the value o-f any betterments or additions
made to the plant or equipment subsequent to the date of their letter
and up to the time of acceptance of same, for the plant and equipment
of the E1 Segundo Water Company,. providing said offer is accepted not
later than ":arch 1st, 1922. On motion of Trustee Smiley, seconded by
Trustee Davis, which carried, the same was ordered filed.
CITY ATTORNEYS' ASSOCIATION OF SO. CALIFORNIA, calling upon this
city to contribute §100.00 to help defray the expenses of the Association's
action in an attempt to secure a reduction in rates of the Southern
California Edison Company through the Railroad Commission of the State
of California. The same was ordered filed on motion of Trustee Smiley,
seconded by Trustee Davis, which carried.
HERALD MLIJHING COIti12ANY, quoting a price of $8.00 for 250 letter-
heads and X20.00 for one thousand Labor and Material \Reports. Ordered
filed.
LANE & LANE, quoting $8.00 for 250 letterheads and $19.95 for
1000 Labor and Material Reports. Ordered filed.
A petition from E1 Segundo Lode No. 435 Z.O.O.F. and seven other
organizations using the City Hall Auditorium, requesting the Board of
Trustees to provide additional silverware and dishes for the use of
the organizations when needed. Ordered filed.

Lr. J. V. Van Eaton of the Herald Publishing Co. expressed his
disp lea-ure at the action of the Board of Trustees in procuring prices
from out -of -town printers on various stationery and printing required
by the City, at the same time requesting the Board to purchase a Franklin
Price Dist. No action taken.
REPORTS OF STAUDI:IO CO! IITTEr.S.
Trustee Rueger of the 2ublic,v4orks Committee reported that his
Committee had selected a location for the electroliers on the Grand Avenue
Hill, but they had not as yet decided upon a location for the posts
proposed to be erected at the head of the stairs on the ocean front
hi ahway.
Trustee Rueger, for the Public Works Committee, reported that the

Automobile Club of Southern California is no longer making signs for the
guidance of pedestrians and he suggested that the Board might have suitable
signs made. By general consent 'Trustee Davis was instructed-to look
over sign catalogs for the purpose of making a selection.
Trustee Binder of the 1--lublic Service Committee reported having
investigated the charitable case referred to the Hoard at its last
meeting and finding the same worthy, two local merchants were each
instructed to provide the family with 412.50 worth of provisions. As
to reporting the matter to the Department of County Charities, he
stated by the time these provisions are used, the family will be self -
supporting.

Loved by Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that action
in the matter of purchasing additional banquet equipment be postponed
one week to permit local suppliers to make quotations. Carried.

Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to purchase two riot
guns and one rifle, together with one box of ammunition for each gun,
from the lowest responsible bidder, at a cost not to exceed 0106.00.

The Clerk advised that inasmuch as the Herald Publishing Company
had a stock of the kind of paper customarily used for the City's letter-

heads, also had the cut heretofore used at the top of the City -'s letter-
heads, that he recommended the order for the printing of 250 letterheads
for the sum of 48.00 be awarded the Herald Publishing Company. Upon
motion of 'Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, the Herald
Publishing Company was authorized to furnish the City with 250 letter-
heads at a cost not to exceed 48.00. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley, Rueger and Bryson.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Loved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that placing
of the order for printing of daily Labor and daterial Reports needed by
the City Clerk be postponed one week. Carried.
City .engineer Arthur W. Cory reported that the total cost of
improving Bonita Vista Avenue from maple to Collingwood with a veneered
macadam pavement thirty feet wide would be $2274.75; the block between
Maple and Walnut Avenues to cost 4945.00 and the block from Walnut
Avenue'to Collingwood Street to cost ,1329.75. It was moved by
Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the City Clerk be and
he is hereby authorized to communicate this information to the persons
requesting the same, advising them that upon deposit with the City Clerk
for payment to the General Fund of the City Treasury of a sum equal
to one -third of ip2274.75, they will pass the necessary resolution
ordering the street improvement. Carried.
City Engineer Cory reported that he will be able in a few days
to set curb stakes on Bonita Vista Avenue according to grade.

Trustee minder inquired of the :engineer what progress is being
made with respect to establishing the grade on Collingwood Street.
The engineer reported having a profile of the grade, but that he has
not been able to compare it with the sewer grade or confer with the
Engineering Department of the City of Los Angeles, to see if they would
combine and agree on establishing the grade on this street. He stated
he would do so at the earliest possible time.

NEW BUSINESS.
The Clerk advised the Board the sire Department was in need of
sulphuric acid. Moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Rueger,
that the City Clerk be instructed to purchase one carboy of sulphuric
acid at a cost not to exceed 415.00. Carried by the following vote:

Trustee Rueger drew the Hoard's attention to the fact that the
intersection of Virginia Street and E1 Segundo Avenue is rough. He
suggested heavier construction at this point. Moved by Trustee Rueger,
seconded by Trustee Davis, that the Street Superintendent be and he is
hereby instructed to improve the intersection of E1 Segundo Avenue
and Virginia Street under the direction of the Public Works Committee.
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.
Noes: Node.
Absent: None.
The City Clerk advised the Board that it should designate some
person to draw up and prepare the forms which will be needed by the
electrical inspector when the recently adopted electrical ordinance
becomes effective within a short time. Moved by Trustee Davis,
seconded by Trustee Binder, that the matter be referred to the Public
Service Committee with power to act. Carried.
By general consent the City Clerk was instructed to request
the City Attorney to be prepared to provide the Board at its next
meeting with all information necessary on the procedure to be taken
in condemning property for street purposes.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
meeting adjourn. Carried.
