A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1
Segundo, California, was called to order at 7:30 o'clock P. ?I. on
the above date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall by VVilliam
C. 3ryson, President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Davis, Smiley and Bryson.
Trustees Absent: Binder and Rueoer,
READING OF• THE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS I:L"E'TING .
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 17th
day of April, 1922, were read without errors or omissions being
noted and they were approved upon motion of Trustee Smiley, seconded
by Trustee Davis, which carried.
Trustee Binder appeared during the reading of the minutes at
the hour of 7:31 o'clock P. Y. and took his seat.

The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:
CHAS. L. 11cIL'.IAI1TE, complaining of the nuisances created by
dogs running at large throughout the city and urging legislation
to remedy the same. The letter was referred to the attorney for
o-oinion.
LL =Yty PRICE, City Clerk of Manhattan Beach, copy of a
letter writ.- -n by order of the Board of Trustees of Hanhattan Beach,
with reference to the pollution of the waters of Santa Monica
Bay by the emptying therein of the City of Los Angeles outfall
sewer, pledging any movement to abate the same hearty support.
Ordered filed.
HEATH ENGINEERING LABORATORIES, with reference to fire alarm
sijnalling device. Ordered filed.
None.
ORAL COMIUNI CATIONS.
REPORTS OF STANDING COBMTTELS .
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee advised that the
case of Mr. D. C. Levis had been taken over by the County Department
of Charities and that they are now looking after the same.
Trustee Binder of the Public ,corks Committee reported that
recently the Street Superintendent had called his attention to the
fact that the magneto on the road roller was not working properly
and that he had authorized its repair.
Trustee Davis of the finance Committee reported that he is
continuing his analysis of the Clerk's last quarterly report with
the view of formulating a monthly budget for the guidance of the
Board of Trustees -oending receipt of the next tax collections.

The Citir Attorney reported he had 'heard nothing from the
Edison Company relative to the license agreement, which he had re-
ferred back to them for revision.
The City Attorney referred back to the Board the letter of
Chas. UcIlwaine, which was handed him for a legal opinion,
advisin_- that the public is provided adequate protection in the
existing laws if they ;rill cooperate with the officials and that
it will be impossible to raise the license tax as suggested in
Hr; McIlwaine's letter as the State Law places a limit of :2.00
and :;;4.00 on annual licenses for male and feria.le dogs respectively.

Taoved by Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that
after this date the Street Superintendent be an? Le is here'.y
instructed to 'reiaetr the lamps in the various electric signs of
the City of El Segundo.

NE77 BUSINEESS.
?:loved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the
City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized to purchase six red
lamps suitable for use in the electroliers erected on the sides
of the Board ';all; over the send hills adjacent to the Standard
Oil Company's fence near the Pacific Electric station on the
coast highway at a cost not to exceed $15.00. Carried by the
following; vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley and Bryson.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Rueger.
Moved by Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to have
published-once in the El Segundo Ferald his report for the
que.rter ending March 31st, 1922. Carried. by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley and Bryson.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Rueger.
The Marshal announced the appointments of H. E. Osborne and
J. G. Carroll as deputy marshals and requested the Board's approval.
loved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that these
appointments be approved. Carried.
The Marshal announced the cancellation of the appointment of
J. D. Tait as deputy marshal.
The Clerk: advised the Board that the Street Superintendent was
in need of a gasoline book for one of the road rollers and the
Iaarshal was in need of a boot: for his motorcycle. It was moved
by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis that the C ity Clerk
be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to purchase two
gasoline coupon books to fill the needs of the Street Superintendent
and the City Marshal at a cost not to exceed $40.00. Carried by
the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley and B rysoh.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Rueger.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Smiler, seconded by Trustee Davis, that
the meeting adjourn. Carried.
