READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting.held orb the 19th day of October
1921, were read without error 4r o 8ibn_'being noted. It was moved
by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Truste�a,Pavis, that the minutes be approved
as read. . Carried. i.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:

J. D. TAIT, ) Applications for appointment to the position of
night watchman. Following secret ballot taken for the purpose of. ,
selecting night watchman, it was moved by Trustee Binder, seconded b.
Trustee Smiley, that E. 0. Davidson be and he is hereby appointec�,*to the
position of night watchman for the City of El Segundo, and that his
selection be declared unanimous. He shall assume the dutiee,bi.Ais
office this date and shall receive as compensation in full for aill_°:
services rendered as such night watchman the sum of $140.00 perl�io�th
until the further order of this Board, said sum being payable lttothly
as other city salaries are paid. Carried by the following��ote:

ABSENT: None.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY, requesting permission too
erect poles and string wires on the North side of E1 Segundo Avenue,
Test of the Santa Fe tracks a distance of 1800 feet. Moved by Trustee
Davis, seconded by Trustee Bryson that this permission be granted, pro-
vided the work is prosecuted and completed to the satisfaction of the
Street`Superintendent of the City of E1 Segundo. Carried by 'the
following vote:
AYES: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
PETITION OF P. D. GARDNER and seventeen others, requesting the
erection of a street light at Eucalyptus Drive and Maple Avenue. Moved
by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that this request be granted
and the City Clerk instructed to request the Southern California
Edison Company to install this light as an addition to their contract
with the City of E1 Segundo. Carried by the following vote:
AYES: Trustees Binder,-' ryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ORAL COMWMICATIONS.
Mr. W. W. Ferris of the Electric Sign Company submitted plans
of electric signs proposed to be erected at the entrances to the
city for the purpose of directing traffic within the city, stating

that the cost of same would approximate $450.00. No action was
taken pending consideration by the Board. �,�
REPORTS OF UTANDIZIG CO1
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee stated that in
his opinion the City Recorder was entitled to an increase in salary.
The City Attorney made an inspection of the Recorder's docket, stating"
that he could offer no suggestion for cutting down the work of that
official. Following discussion, it was moved by Trustee Davis,
seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the salary of the City Recorder
of the City of E1 Se undo be and the same is hereby increased from
$25.00 per month to 35.00 per month,'effective November lst, 1921,
said salary to be payable monthly as other city salaries are paid.
Carried by the following vote:
AYES: Trustees Binder, Brys n, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
NOES: No

UNFINIS NESS.
The Clerk advised the Board that Messrs. Dodd, Golliher and
Gardner.had submitted a report with reference to amending the Building
Ordinance. The report was laid on the table for one week.
The Clerk reported also that Mr. Z. A. Snyder had recommended
toe adoption of Santa Monica's electrical ordinance with certain
tions and modifications as an electrical ordinance for the City
.o Segundo. The Clerk was recuested to refer this ordinance
McAllister, an electrical contractor of the City of E1 Segundo,

NEW BUSINESS.
Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the
City authorized to have published once in the El Segundo

r arterly report of the financial transactions of the City
of E1 for the quarter ending September,30th, 1921. Carried
by the following vote:
AYES: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
`The Marshal announced that Ed Montiel had resigned as Night
Vdatchman. Moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that
the resignation be accepted, effective at the termination of the
watch of October 25th, 1921. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
Clerk be authorized to purchase eight Hand Books for City Officials
at a cost not to exceed $25.00. Carried by-the following vote:
AYES: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
Moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the
,;tree' Superintendent be supplied with a gasoline coupon book in
compensation for the use of his automobile while in prosecution of
his official duties. Carried by the following vote:
AYES: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
Moved by Trustee bmiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
City Clerk be instructed to write the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph
Company, requesting them to properly identify the telephone numbers
of the City Hall, Fire Department and various municipal officials when
publishing their next and future telephone directories. Carried.
The ?Marshal announced the revocation of the appointment of
S. H. Tainter as a Deputy.
Moved by Trustee Davis „ seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the
City Attorney investigate the circumstances connected with the accident
which occurred at E1 Segundo Avenue and Main Street, October 20th,
1921, in which a horse owned by A. T. Miller and hired by the City of
E1 Segundo was injured to such an eAtent. that it had to be destroyed,
and advise the Board as to its liability and recourse, if any.
Carried.
No further husiness appearing to be transacted At this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
meeting adjourn. Carried.
