A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El
Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. on the
above date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, by Carl E. Rueger,
President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger,
Trustees Absent: Bone.
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 16tb day of
November, 1921, were read without error or omission being noted. it
was moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the minutes
be approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COLMUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:
EL SEGUNDO CHAMBER OF COMLMCE, advising that that organization
had passed a motion instructing the Secretary to ask the Board of Trustees
that the official minutes of the city Council be published in the Al
Segundo Herald. Moved by Trustee hinder, seconded by Trustee Smiley,
that the city clerk communicate with the Secretary of the Z1 Segundo
Chamber of Commerce, informing her that the minutes of the Board of
Trustees of the Uity of E1 Segundo are public records, available at
the city Clerk's office to anyone desiring to refer to the same and
that they can be published in the E1 Segundo Herald as news, if the
Editor sees fit, but not at advertising rates. Carried.
HOWARD & SMITH, NURSERY11EN, suggesting that boxwood be planted
around the edges in front of the lawn at the City.Hall,as a hedge or
border. Moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by 'Trustee Smiley, that
the City Clerk be instructed to purchase from Howard & 5mith, Burserymen,
sixty boxwood plants at a cost not to exceed $20.00. Carried by the
following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, `Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: Bone.
Absent: None.
R. RABER, requesting permission to out down the trees in front
of the North 45 ft. of Lot 5, Block 104, city of z1 Segundo. Referred
to Trustee Binder for investigation and report:
R. C. 2EABODY and others, requesting an estimate of the cost
of improving the alley in Block 79 of this city. Moved by Trustee
Smiley, seconded by Trustee.Davis, that the request be referred to the
City zngineer with instructions to supply an estimate of the cost of
the work. Carried.
PUBLIC POIT&R LEAGUE, advising a meeting of the League of the
Southwest at Riverside, on December 8th, 9th and 10th, 1921, to con-
sider Colorado Aiver problems;. also a hearing on Colorado River Develop-
ment before Secretary of the Interior Fall at San Diego, December 12th,
1921, and urging that the City of E1 Segundo procure membership in the
League of the Southwest, the membership fee of §25.00 to be paid by
December 7th, 1921. Ordered filed.
GRANT M. LORRAINE, Secretary of the League of the Southwest,

advising of a special convention of said League at Riverside,
8th, 9th and 10th, 1921, and of a meeting of representatives
various cities to be held at Ontario on November 25th, 1921.

PACiF1C POST NO. 389 AM01CAN LEGION, an expression of appreciation
for the use of the city Hall Auditorium, November 5th, 1921 and of the
assistance rendered'the American Legion by the Board of Trustees to make
their Armistice Lay celebration successful. Ordered filed.
ORAL COGUL01CATIONS.
Marshal Kidwell advised the Board that mr. Kersohner, Proprietor
of the Standard Garage, has erected a fence or boxing around the
motor located in the lot adjoining his garage.
J. v. Van riaton on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, requested
the use of one -half dozen chairs on the evening of November 28th, 1921.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that this re-
quest be granted. Carried.
R&PORTS OF STANDING COMMMEES.
Trustee Binder of the eublic Works Committee reported having
given the proposed amendments to the Building Ordinance some 'consider-
ation and the recommendations made by Messrs. Dodd Golliher and
Gardner were discussed at some length. Trustee binder requested an
additional week to give the matter further consideration.
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee reported possible
misunderstanding as to the Board's idea with respect to Relief Fire -
Engine Drivers and by general consent it was determined that the
regular fire engine driver should be off duty each Sunday and relief
driver supplied from the Street Department as previously ordered.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES.
The City Clerk reported that .the Southern California $dis on
Company advised him that the globe holders ordered sometime ago had
to be cast on account of stocks being exhausted and that the Edison
Company expected delivery the early part of nest week; that the
street lights of greater candle power than those ordinarily used as
ordered by the Board of Trustees sometime ago have been received by
the Edison Company, who promised *km to have them installed daring
the coming week, and that the same company will advise the Trustees
within a few days the method they will use for lighting the street
signs to be installed by the Board of Trustees.
By general consent the Board agreed to meet at.the Standard
Oil Company's main gate at 4 :00 o'clock P. M. Friday, November 25th,
1921, for the purpose of inspecting the looations of the traffic
signs proposed to be erected within the city,
Engineer Cory and City Clerk Mo6arthy reported as to their
investigations regarding posts to b a used for the traffic sign at
Grand Avenue and Main Street, following which it was moved by Trustee
Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that this sign be erected upon a
post made of iron,pipe, 26 ft, in height, the first nine feet to be
8" pipe, the balance 6" pipe. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes:- None,
Absent: None.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS• _
Messrs. Lo A. Snyder and B. McAllister filed with the Board
their recommendation for electrical ordinance for the City of E1
Segundo and upon motion of Trustee Bryson, Seconded by Trustee Smiley,
which oarried, the.same was referred to the City Attorney to draft the
ordinance. ,
PAYING BILLS.
The claim of Pacific Post No, 38, American Legion, for 28.00 for
amount advanced for publio street dance Armistice Night, November 11th,
1921, was approved by the Finance Committee and it was moved by Trustee
Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the claim be paid and warrant
drawn on General Fund for the same. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
NEW BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the City
Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to purohase'a four
face traffic direction sign to be erected at the corner of Main Street
and Grand Avenue as per plan and specifications of same submitted by
the Electrical Products Corporation, at a cost not to exceed $250.00.
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: None,
Absent: None.
No further business appearing.to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
meeting adjourn. Carried.
