A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El
Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. K. on the
above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, by Carl E. Rueger,
President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Binder, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Trustees Absent: Bryson.
READING OF MINUTES .OP PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 11th day of
May, 1921, were read without error or omission being noted. It was
moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the minutes
be approved as read. Carried.
Trustee Bryson appeared at the meeting during the reading of
the minutes and took his seat, the hour being 7 :33 o'clock P. M.

ORAL C016MUNICATIONS.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMKITTEES.
Trustee Bryson of the Public. Works Committee reported that
in connection with improving the appearance of the grounds surrounding
the City Hall, this committee recommended that the ground be spaded
and the fertiliser turned under and that any additional improvement
at this time should be left to the entire Board. It appearing that
the work. recommended will do away with the weeds, and present
unsightly appearance of the grounds, it was decided by general.
consent that in view of the heavy expenditures made by the Board
during the past nine months,, this work will suffice for the present.
REPORTS OF SPECIAL C OMUITTEES.
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee reported that
he had had a conference with the Fire Chief and that official thought
that ten hand chemical extinguishers would satisfy the desires of
the Fire Department, although he had not had time to make a thorough
survey of the situation. The cost of the extinguishers would be
$14.85 each.
Trustee Davis also brought up the matter of a bicycle for the
Night Watchman and a motorcycle for the Marshal. The Clerk reported
having received a price of $49.60 for a Black Beauty 'traveler Bicycle,
equipped with electric lights from the Haverford Cycle Company and
a price of $47.50 for a double bar motor bike with headlight and
tail light from the Pacific Motor 9a.pp3,y Company.
Following discussion, it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded
by Trustee Bryson, that the matter be laid on the table for one
week, and the City Clerk instructed to ascertain what allowance
these companies will matte on the old motorcycle in trade for
bicycles. Carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
Setting a day for the proposed Clean -up Day was mentioned,
and June let proposed, but no action thereon was taken.

Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the
appointments of the persons named by the City Marshal as Deputies be
and the same are hereby approved. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
deed to the Northerly 25 feet of Lot 10, Block 94, for public street
purposes, as presented to this City by Alfred Carlson et uz, be and
the same is hereby accepted on behalf of the City of E1 Segundo and
the City Clerk is hereby directed to have the same recorded. Carried
by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
The setting of posts at the various fire hydrants throughout the
city was again discussed and it was recommended that Trustee Davis, in
whose hands the matter had been previously placed, consult with the
Street Daperintendent, who might have enough lumber on hand to erect
the requisite number of posts.
Trustee Rueger drew attention to the fact that air guns are being
used throughout the Oity by young boys, thus endangering citizens, and
the Marshal was instructed to see that the practice is stopped.
Trustee Rueger also drew attention to cuts in the shoulders of
the recently improved Walnut Avenue East of Main Street and suggested
that these shoulders be oiled to prevent :&rther cutting by storm
waters.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by `lb:ustee Davis, that the
matter be referred to the Public Works Committee, Carried.
No ftirther business appearing to be transacted at this
meeting, it was moved by 2ustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee
Davis, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
