A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of L1
Segundo, California, was called to order on the above date -at 7 :30 o'clock
P. K. in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, by Carl :.. Rueger,
President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Binder, Bryson, Smiley and Rueger.
Trustee:, Absent: Davis.

The minutes of the regular meeting held -on the 2nd day of ..Larch,
1921 were read. No errors or omissions being noted, it was moved by
Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that they be approved as
read. Carried.

The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:
A petition of 2. H. Jensen and seventeen others, requesting the
Board of Trustees to instruct the pity aingineer to estimate the cost
per front foot of constructing sidewalks and curbs on both sides of
�..ain Street, north of idariposa Avenue, improving the roadway of .,Lain
,street to its entire width and erecting electroliers along the sides of
the same roadway. iioved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by l'rustee Bryson,
that the matter be referred to the city Engineer for the necessary
action. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Smiley and nueger.

to rent :he City _�-iall Auditorium on the evening of April 29th, 1921,
for the purpose of nolding a dance. :Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded
by Trustee Hinder, that their request be granted upon the payment to
the City Clerk of the customary rental fee of ,7.50. Carried.

on record respecting Assembly Sills Ilos. 230 and 231, now pending in
the State Legislature, which acts will limit the powers of Boards of
Trustees with respect to franchises. It was moved by Trustee Smiley,
seconded by 'Trustee Binder, that the following resolution be adopted:
"RESOLVED, That this Board of 'Trustees is opposed
to the passage of Assembly Bills Nos. 230 and 231, and

Bill No. 227, introduced in the Legislature, proposes that the Jriarshal
in small cities shall be elected instead of being appointed by the Board
of Trustees. Loved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that
+the following resolution be adopted:
"RESOLVED, That it is the sense of this Board
of Trustees that the law respecting the appointment
of 1darshals by Boards of Trustees in small cities
be not changed, and

Trustees is opposed to the passage of Assembly Bill

M. J. L. PMUMOY, County Health Officer, requesting endorse-
ment of Assembly Bills Nos. 204 and 556, which provide for the establish-
ment of Health Centers and enables Boards of Supervisors to make
contracts with school districts for the services of a nurse or physician.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Binder, that the following
resolution be adopt-ea:
"RESOLILD, that this Board of Trustees hereby
endorses and urges the adoption of Assembly Bills
.dos. 204 and 556, and
BE IT FURTHM, ;SOLVED, that the City Clerk
be instructed to notify the Senator and Assemblyman
from this District and the County Health Officer
of the action of this Board ".

Yr. W. V1. Phillips, on behalf of Id. E. Morgan, requested
consideration in the placing of insurance on the Municipal Building
and Fire Apparatus, which he understood was to be considered at this
meeting.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS. >
The City Engineer presented for the Board's approval a profile
of Bonita Vista Avenue from Palm Avenue to Collingwood Street. Pending
a visual survey of the street by the Board, no action was taken.
Trustee Rueger stated that he thought minor repairs to the Streets
should be made where necessary before conditions which are now bad
become worse and more expensive to repair, instead of prosecuting so
much new work to the exclusion of all repair wor .&. The Public 17orks
Committee agreed to follow the idea, which appeared to be the general
concensus of the Board.

NEW BUSINESS.
The Clerk advised the Board of the expiration of fire insurance
policies on the City Hall Building and on the fire engine; also that
Mr. E. 0. Lewis had presented policies aggregating 46333.00 fire insurance
on the City Hall. Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee
Bryson, that the following Resolution be adopted:

that Aetna Insurance Company of Hartford, Conn.

The Marshal announced the revocation of the appointments of
p. S. Barnes, T. J. O'Halloran and R. S. Russell as Depty Liarshals.
Loved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that
future applicants to rent the City hall Auditorium be required to
deposit with their application the sum of 07.50, which deposit
shall be paid into the City Treasury in payment of the rental when
permission is granted, or returned to the applicant if permission
is denied. Carried.
The Clerk announced that iir. L. A. Borden had applied for
permission to break the sidewalk and curb in front of his premises
at-No. 311 Franklin Avenue, for the purpose of constructing an
approach to his garage. Discussion arose over the ap.)licatioh, it
being pointed out that cuts and inclines through sidewalks are
dangerous and it was decided that the matter be given consideration
pending receipt of written application from Lir. Borden.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that
the meeting adjourn. Carried.
