A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of :,1 Segundo,
California, was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. on the above
date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, by Carl E. Rueger,
President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
TRUSTEES PP.ESERT: Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
TRUSTEES ABSENT: None.

The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 23rd day of February,
1921, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, the minutes were
approved upon motion by Trustee Smiley seconded by 'Trustee Davis,
which carried.

The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated:
HARRY H. CULVER, informing the Board that the Supreme Court had
granted a rehearing in'the Sawtelle case, which will take place during
the month of April. Ordered filed.
GOLD CREST' �'BEZAH "LODGE; NO. 357 I.0.0. F. , advising that the lodge
had arranged to use the City Hall Auditorium only the first four
Fridays of each month. Ordered filed.

Street Superintendent A. R. Gunn advised the Board that in his
opinion his department should be equipped with additional tools,
including a forge, anvil and vulcanizing outfit, so that his depart-
ment could make their own repairs to the municipal equipment. He
was advised to make a.list of the equipment required for the con-
sideration of the Board at its next meetings.

Trustee Davis reported that the motorcycle was undergoing repairs
and should be in first class condition after they are completed.
Trustee Binder stated that Lr. John Alexander had asked him to
request the Board's permission for the removal of eucalyptus trees
from in front of his premises on Collingw ood Street. 'Trustee Binder
was instructed to have the applicant make the request in writing.
Trustee Binder advised that he and Trustee Bryson were of the
opinion that the grade already established on 1.:ariposa 4venue,
between Richmond Street and Uain Street, should be changed. Following
discussion of the matter, it was moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by
Trustee Smiley that the City Attorney be and he is hereby instructed
to prepare the necessary proceedings to change the grade of a portion
of :- ariposa Avenue from the existing grade to a new grade to be
furnished by the amity :_;ngineer. The roll was called and the motion
unanimously carried.
Trustee Rueger inquired if the shoulders of yl Segundo Avenue,
where the same had been washed by recent storm waters, had been oiled.
He was advised that they have not been and that it was thought best
torwait oilin-- the same until after the guard fences have been erected.
Trustee Bryson and Trustee Binder agreed to meet the Street Superintendent
on Thursday, ILarch 3rd, to decide upon the number and locations of
ward fences to be erected.

REPORTS OF SPECIAL COIMITTEES.

Tr:e City Attorney presented for the Board's approval the contract
drawn by him for the sale of garbage by the City of E1 Segundo to the
Venice Hog Ranch. After the same had been read, it was moved by
Trustee Smiley, seconded by- Trustee Davis, that the President of the
Board of Trustees be and he is hereby authorized to sign the contract
for the sale of garbage to the Venice Hog Ranch and that the City Clerk
be and he -is hereby authorized and instructed to attest the same.
Carried by the following vote:
AYES: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and :ueger.
NOBS: None.
ABSENT: None.
Moved.by Trustee Davis, seconded by 'Trustee Smiley, that the
City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to advertise for
sealed bids or proposals for the furnishing and installation of an
automatic fire signalling device for the City of E1 Segundo, said bids
to be opened and publicly declared at the regular meeting of the Board
of Trustees to be held on the 30th day of Larch, 1921, at the hour of
8 :00 o'clock P. M. Carried by the following vote:

NEW BUSINESS.
loved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that
the chairs not required for the conducting of *the meetings of the
lodges using the City Hall Auditorium on March 8th, 9th and 11th be
loaned to the Athletic Club for use in the Grammar School Auditorium
on said dates. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to have the
First Aid Cabinet on the fire engine replenished at a cost not to
exceed X15.00. Carried by the following vote:

Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that Howard
Tracy be and he is hereby granted permission to use the City Hall
Auditorium on the evening of !:larch 12th, 1921, for the purpose of
giving a dance, upon the payment to the City Clerk of the customary
rental fee of 47.50. Carried.
At the hour of 8 :10 o'clock P. yo the Chair declared a
recess of 10 minutes. The hour of 8 :20 o'clock P. M. having arrived,
the meeting was called to order by Carl E. Rueger, President of the
Board, all Trustees being present.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that
Stewart be and he is hereby appointed Relief Fire Engine Driver for
the City of E1 Segundo, said appointment dating from and after
March 1st and to continue during the pleasure of this Board, said
appointee to receive as compensation in full for all services
rendered as such Relief Fire Engine Driver the sum of :10.00 per
month, payable as other city salaries are paid. Carried by the
following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.

Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
Building Inspector be and he is hereby instructed to notify Lr. E.
L. McMurray that his theater building, now being erected on the
East side of Richmond Street between El Segundo and Franklin
Avenues, must be completed in accordance with the Building irdinance
of the City of E1 Segundo. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.

Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that
the introduction of Ordinance No. 75 be withdrawn and that the number
be reserved for future use. Carried by the following vote:

the City Attorney be and he•is hereby authorized'to enter
Satisfaction of Judgment in Case Ito. B 89802 in the Superior
Court upon payment to him for the City of E1 Segundo of the
sum of 4296.90. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
