A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El
Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. K. on the
above date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall by Carl E. Rueger,
President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Trusteew Absent: Binder.
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 29th day of June,
1921, were read. No errors or omissions being noted, it was moved
by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the minutes be
approved as read. Carried.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting of July let, 1921
were read without error or omission being noted and it was moved
by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Smiley that they be approved
a read. Carried.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:
A letter from the Executive Committee of the E1 Segundo Volunteer
Fire Department, advising that C. A. Brittain had been appointed to
the office of Chief of the Department to fill the unexpired term of
C. S. Luscombe, resigned, and that George kcLaughlin had been
appointed Second Assistant Chief to fill the unexpired term of C. A.
Brittain. Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley,
that said appointments be approved. Carried.
C. E. BUNCE, requesting the use of twelve collapsible chairs on
Saturday, July 9th, 1921. Moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee
Bryson, that C. E. Bunce be permitted to borrow twelve chairs from
the City Hall to be used by him at his residence, No. 206 Whiting
Street, providing this permission does not conflict with any public
use of said chairs. Carried.
ORAL COIL, LIUNI CATI ON S.
;Jessrs. C.-D, Metcalf, H. B. Fullerton and W. J. Black requested
the Board to accept d6eas to certain property in Block .96 of this .city,
for the purpose of opening a street, running North and South between
Palm and "p le Avenue. Moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee
Smiley, that the matter be referred to the City Engineer for the
preparation of the necessary descriptions and that the City Engineer
furnish the same to the City Attorney and property owners for their
further action. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: rustees Bryson, Davis, - Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: lone*
Absent: Trustee Binder.
REPORTS JF STAIZDI14G CCU L"ITTEES.
Trustee Davis of the Public Safety Committee reported that the'
Relief lire Engine Drivers' quarters should be supplied with two sheets
and two pillow cases. At the suggestion of Trustee Smiley the matter
was referred to the proper committee for action.
Trustee Davis announced that he had formulated certain rules for
the guidance and conduct of the regular and relief fire engine drivers.

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL C01aITT ES.
The City Attorney reported that the description of the boundaries
of Fire District No. 1 as the same are to be amended was in course
of preparation by the City Engineer and that upon`its reosipt -the
City Attorney would draft the necessary ordinance.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that
Ordinance No. 80, entitled:
"AN ORDINA110E OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, ALENDING ORDIitAdCE NO. 12
OF SAID CITY, PASSED AND ADOPTED ON ME
14th DAY OF_ !::ARCH, 1917, BY ADDIiiG A NEW
SECTION THERETO TO BE KNOWN AS SECT ION - 37-x",
which was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the Board of
Trustees held on the 29th day of June, 1921, be adopted. Carried by
the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Binder.
NEW BUSINESS.
Trustee Rueger requested that the weeds in the parking on Holly
Avenue between Concord and -Id -ain Streets be removed and the matter was
referred to the Street superintendent. He also suggested that the weeds
remaining on the vacant property in the block in front-of the City Hall
be removed by a scythe and by general consent the matter was referred
to the Street Superintendent.
Trustee Rueger suggested that the City Clerk telephone the
City of Los Angeles hkngineering Department, requesting that the
sand on the Coast Boulevard within the City of Los'Angeles be removed.
It was also suggested that the Clerk telephone the Supervisor from
this District, requesting that the washouts on the Coast Boulevard
between E1 Segundo and Manhattan Beach be repaired.
The Street Superintendent requested that he be provided with
cards to enable him to gather personal statistics of men seeking
employment in his department. !Moved by Trustee Davis, sec prided by
Trustee Bryson, that the City Clark provide the necessary forms at a
cost not to exceed $10.00. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: idone.
Absent: Trustee Binder.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this meeting,
it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
meeting adjourn. Carried.
