WRITTEN CaiMUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read and disposed of as in-
dicated:

SAY, A. JACV a petition requesting extension of six months time
in which to comply with the orders of the Health Officer for the
abatement of privies. Roy Slenker, both of
iulr. D. ILLcginley and I�r.
whom signed the petition, were present at the meeting and made arguments
in favor of the extension of time requested in the petition. Following
brief discussion by the Board, action thereon was postponed one week.

0. DAVIDSON, requesting his appointment as a Deputy idarshal.
The :iarshal announced that he had appointed E. 0. Davidson a Deputy
Marshal, following which it was moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by
Trustee Binder that the appointment be confirmed. Carried.
THE CITY COUIUCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JOSE, a resolution which
they desired this Board to adopt. By general consent action thereon
was deferred one week.
ORAL C0110NICATIONS.
Representatives of the Venice Hog Ranch were present and addressed
the Board in an effort to .ascertain the price the Board of Trustees
wanted for the garbage which is being delivered to them. After some
consideration it was agreed that the gentlemen would submit a proposition
to the Board in writing at next e8c meeting and that a
pay for all garbage �eyedP riorto the onsnmmiofan agreement
bdr. Bender, owner 'of the building erected as a fruit stand at the
Southeast corner of Concord Street and Grand Avenue, which the building
Inspector had instructed him to plaster in accordance wittht was moved ng

Trustee Davis of the 2ublic jafety Committee -reported that the
Night datchman has not been patrolling the town as per his instructions
and that he favored getting another watchman if this man does not do
his work in a more satisfactory manner.
Trustee Davis also reported that the Ll Segundo Volunteer Fire
Department would hold an election of officers this week.

The City Engineer reported that his surveying party had reported to
him that the trees in the parking on East !Maple. Avenue and East Vialnut
Avenue would not inter -fere with the construction of sidewalks or curbs
on these streets, but that he had not had an opportunity to verify the

The City Lngineer reported having completed the setting of sidewalk
and curb stakes for Ivar A. Wickman on Arena Street.

NEW BUSINESS.
Loved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that Wm,

be and he is hereby granted permission to use the City Hall Auditorium
on the evening of February 19th for the purpose of giving an entertainment
and dance upon the payment to the City Clerk of the customary rental fee
of 47.50. Carried.
The Marshal announced the revocation of the appointment of C. N.
Jillson as Deputy.
Trustee Davis advised that he had continued his efforts to secure
Relief Fire Engine Drivers without success. The matter was discussed
and it was suggested that the monthly salary allowed these relief drivers
should be increased, following which it was moved by Trustee Binder,
seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the monthly compensation allowed Relief
Fire Engine Drivers be and the same is increased from 45.00 per month
each to 410.00 per Month each, including free use of their room and the
hours to be worked by following vote@ Drivers be the same as
heretofore.
