A regular meeting of the board of Trustees,of the City of El
Segundo, California, was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. on the
above date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall by William C.
Bryson, President of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.
Trustees Absent: none.
READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 21st day of
December, 1921, were read without error or omission being noted. it
was moved by Trustee Binder, seconded by Trust® Smiley, that the minuted
be approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COMkIUNI CATIONS .
The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:
F. H. STAGiTON, Seely. employees' Mortuary fthd, requesting
permission to use the Council Chamber of the City Hall on Tuesday
evening, January 3rd, 1922. Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by
Trustee Hueger, that this permission be granted and no charge made
therefor. Carried.
LEAGUE OF THE SOUTHWEST, suggesting conference with other
Southern Ualifornia members of the League to determine who shall
represent California at a conference with Secretary of Commerce
Hoover, relating to the Uolorado diver project, at a time and place
to be determined later. Ordered filed.
H. S. CROCKER CO-9 INC., and EL SEGUNDO S'TA'TS BANK, New
Year's Greetings. Ordered filed.

City Marshal Kidwell advised having requested the Southern
California Edison Company to produce a permit for the trimming of
trees within the Uity of s1 Segundo and that they were unable to show
one in writing, but claimed to have a verbal permit. It appearing
that none had been granted, 'Trustee Rueger suggested that in future
permission for trimming these trees should be obtained from the Street
Superintendent. This suggestion was agreeable to the Board.
REPORTS OF STANDING COLKITTEES.
Trustee Rueger of the Public Works Committee reported that
one of the traffic direction signs recently ordered from the Electrical
Products Corporation has been erected and that the others are due.
None.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND SPECIAL COW"TITTEES.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
The matter of publishing the minutes of the meetings of the
Board of Trustees in the E1 Segundo Herald was reopened and it was
suggested by Trustee Smiley that the Herald submit in writing a
proposition with respect to printing the minutes. Mr. J. v. Van Eaton,
publisher of the newspaper, was present and stated that he would
publish everything in connection with the official meetings of the
Board for the sum of $100.00 per month.
It was moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Binder,

that the Herald Publishing Company be paid the sum of $75.00 per month,
beginning with the month of January, 1922, for publishing all official
minutes of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo weekly in
the El Segundo Herald.
Amended by Trustee Smiley that the Herald Publishing Corgpany be
paid the sum of $50.00 monthly for publishing all of the official
minutes of the Board of Trustees weekly in the E1 Segundo Herald.
Amendment seconded by Trustee Davis. Amendment was lost by the
following vote:

The original motion was then put and carried by the following

PAYING BILIS.
No demands presented.
NEW BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Rueger, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the
City Clerk obtain prices on electric lamps. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Binder, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the
Southern California Edison Company be and they are hereby granted
permission to erect such poles as are necessary to suspend and furnish
electric energy for the lighting of traffic direction signs at Main
and Collingwood Streets, at Mrand Avenue and Loma Vista Street and
at El Segundo Avenue and Main Street. Carried.
Moved by Trustee omiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
Maccabees be granted permission to use the City Hall Auditorium on
the afternoon of December 29th, 1921, and that a charge of $1.00
be made therefor. Carried.
Trustee Rueger drew attention to the fact that the park benches
adjacent to the municipal band stand are setting in sand, which will
cause the legs to rot off and that he had instructed to Street Supt.
to nail a board on the bottoms of these benches to prevent their
deterioration.
The Clerk announced that the Standard Oil Company, through its
superintendent J. F. Faber, had approved a plan for assisting the
El Segundo Volunteer Fire Department in event of a fire within the
city but outside of the refinery, as recommended by Mr, Don Fugitt,
Chief of the Standard Oil Company's Pire Department. Moved by
Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that the plan to assist
the City of E1 Segundo volunteer Fire Department as offered by the
Standard Oil Company be and the same is hereby accepted. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Rueger, that the
City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized to purchase a flashlight
for the Night Watchman at a cost not to exceed $3.50. Carried by the
following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Rueger, Smiley and Bryson.
Noes: None., Absent: None.
No further business appearing to be transacted at this mee ng,
