above date, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, by Carl E. :;ue�er,

The minutes of the regular meetino- held on the 16th day of
April, 1x21, were read without error or omission being noted. L -.owed
by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the minutes be
approved as read. Carried.

District, opposing passage of Senate Bill iro. 971, to which letter

some discussion on the subject, it was moved by Trustee Bryson,
seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the City Clerk be and he is hereby
instructed to send a telegram to Arthur A. deber, Assemblyman and
Chas. 'ri. Lyon, Senator, advising that this Board of Trustees opposes
the passage of Senate Bill ilo. 971 and requesting them to use their
efforts to defeat the measure. Carried by the following vote:

Noes: Bone.
Absent: None.

advise them what amount they would be required t96ontribute toward
the improvement of Virginia Street from Grand Avenue to E1 Segundo

matter be referred to the City Engineer for report to the Board as
to the cost of this proposed work. Carried by the following vote:

A. C. JOu'I1SJI, requesting permission to conduct a pool room at
106 Grand Avenue. Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Binder,
that the matter be laid on the table for one week. Carried.
CHAS. H. LYt.:A,, requesting permission to use the City Hall
auditorium_ for three successive Sundays, commencing April 24th or
i ay 1st, for the curpose of conducting religious meetings. Iuoved by
Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that such permission be
granted and that no charge be made for the use of the hall. Carried.

LIr. J. V. 'Tan Eaton requested permission to construct a„re-
taining wall in the basement of his building on the '.lest side of Idain
Street between Holly and tine avenues. Loved by Trustee Davis,
seconded by Trustee Smiley that such permission be granted. Carried.

City Marshal 17m. B. Hungerford informed the Board that
after inquiry into the prices of second -hand motorcycles, he had
decided to reconsider his suggestion to the Board of 'Trustees that
he would supply his own motorcycle, as he felt that the cost, of
one was beyond his means, and that he had obtained from the Indian
11otorcvcle Company a proposition in writing, submitting an offer
for the motorcycle now owned by the City of E1 Segundo and quoting
prices on a new one. He also had requested the Harley-Davidson
Motorcycle Company to offer the city a proposition and this firm
had a salesman present who quoted w650.00 on a police motorcycle
fully equipped, offering 4225.00 for the City of Zl Segundo's motor-
cycle on a trade. The Pacific 1-otor Suhuly Company, agents for
the Indian motorcycle, quoted ;'641.00 on a special police r:.otor-
cycle (ally equipped, and offered to allow X150.00 on the old machine
on a trade. It was moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by 'Trustee
Binder that consideration of this matter be laid on the table 'or
one week. Carried.

Trustee Bryson reported that the addition to the municipal
lavatory is nearl,7 completed. He advised also that he had laid out
the work necessary to reconstruct the approach to the garage of Dr.
H. A. Davis at the Southeast corner of Concord Street and Franklin
Avenue and explained to the Board fully the slope he recommended.

the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to order
installed in the firemen's quarters in the Cit.T .all building a
No. 22 Ruud ',later Heater, together with the necessary gas piping
and water piping connections -at a cost not to exceed 0175.00.

The Street Superintendent filed a list of tools which
would be required by him to mare the necessary repairs to the municipal
street department equipment, the cost of which will a -) proximate
X190.00. The City Clerz was instructed to obtain prices on the
articles required from a number of suppliers.

Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the Choir
Club of St. Anthony's Catholic Church be granted permission to use the
City Hall Auditorium without charge on the night of .Lay 7th, 1921, for
the purpose of giving a dance. Carried.

providing the same does not interfere with the opening of doors or

Superintendent be and he is hereby instructed to designate at least
two of his men to remove weeds from the parkings adjacent to sidewalks
throughout the City. Carried.
Trustee Davis stated that action should be taken toward improving
the grounds surrounding the City Hall by planting a lavm. i,ioved by
Trustee amileY, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the matter be referred
to the _'ublic ',7orks Committee. /Carried.
The mars' -&! announced the revocation of the appoirtment of T.
Hiles- as a deputy.
'Fife 1i ;y Clerk advised that the tenant on the first floor of the
a,:ery 3uilding complained about being annoyed by boys in the r'iremen's
amuse :.,ent _:oom at night. It was the consensus of the Hoard that boys
should not be -permitted in this room and that it should be a part of
the watchman's duties to make a nightly investigation of conditions in
the firemen's quarters for the purpose of insuring proper conduct of
oersons therein.
The Clerk advised that repairs to the City Pound are necessary.

bonds for the faithful performance of their contract to install
public fire alarm signalling apparatus in accordance with the terms
of their bid dated ;.:arch 30th, 1921, and for the payment of labor
and material bills which might arise out of the prosecution of their
contract, - hich said bonds were approved as to form by the City
