October 13, 19200 A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of is Segundo was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock,.pn the above date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, by Carl E. Rueger, President of the Board. ROLL CALL. Trustees Present: Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger. Trustees Absent: None. READING OF MINUTES U2 24.Z:VI.OUS ..,LETI11:G. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 6th day of October, 1920, were read without error or omission being noted. Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the minutes be approved as read. Carried. MKITTEN COl UNICATIONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: A letter from V1. E. Lorgan, agent for E. 1'aaw, advising that on and after Uovember 1st, 1920, the rental of the Firemen's Amusement Room will be 435.00 per month. Lioved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the following resolution be adopted: &SDLVED, That the upper floor of that certain two story brick building, situated on the East side of Main -Street, between 'Grand and Holly Avenues, in the City of El Segundo, and known as the ba�cery Building, be rented for the use of the .2:1 Segundo Volunteer Fire Department and the E1 Segundo Band at a monthly rental of 435.00 per month, payable monthly from and after the first day of November, 1920, and until the further order of this Board, and BE IT AJRTMM RESOLVED, that the President of the Board of Trustees and the City Clerk be'and they are hereby authorized and instructed to enter into a lease for said building for the period of one ,year on said terms ". A letter from Ira R. i.orrison, City Clerk of the City of Chico, California, urging the Board of Trustees to have representatives at the Convention of the League of California municipalities, to be held in Chico on November'8th to 11th, 19�U. A letter from the League of California :.i`unicipalities, notifying of the 22nd Annual ileeting of City Officials of California at Chico, California, November 8th to 11th, 1920, and requesting a representation from this City at said Convention. Iviead, advising that he had altered his intention to move a one story frame building within the City of El Segundo, for which application had been presented to the .Board at its previous meeting. Ordered filed. A letter from the itedondo Electric Shop, quoting a price of X280.00 for the installation of a motor and air compressor, to be used in conjunction with the heating plant in the -ity Hall. Ordered filed. A petition from J. L. Gerdw and others, requesting the Board's action in the matter of the acquisition by the City of E1 Segundo of a municipally-owned water works and distributing system. ordered filed. A letter from Robert Tenan and F. E. Wood, a)plying for a permit to operate an automobile stage line in the City of .:1 Segundo, between a Segundo and Redondo Beach via the Coast Boulevard. Moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by irustee Smiley, that the application of Robert Tenan and �'. E. rlood to operate an automobile stage line between El Segundo and Redondo Beach, said application being Application 14o. 4, be granted for the i:iaximum period provided by law, subject to the rates, schedules and other conditions enumerated in said application and further subject to the effect of such ordinances or resolutions of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo as are now in force or may hereafter be adopted, and subject also to the granting of permission by the liailroad Commission of the State of California for such stage line. A petition from the El Segundo School Board and others requesting the improvement of Richmond Street from calm to mariposa Avenue. roved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis that the following resolution be adopted: ' "WH�S, it appears that certain residents and property owners of the City of E1 Segundo are willing to pay certain moneys in the sum of :128.51 into the Treasury of the Oity of &l Segundo, Cal., and into the ueneral yVna thereof, for the purpose of- causing certain street improvements.within said City to be made, and, 1 'US, said sum has been deposited With the City Clerk of said City'with instructions to pay the same into said General Fund upon the adoption of the following: NOW 'T EFOR BE IT RESCLYED That the Street Superintendent be and he is hereby instructed to cause the portion of that certain public street within the City of E1 Segundo, California, known as Richmond Street, lying and being between Palm and Lrariposa Avenues, to be improved by the construction therein of the following improvement, to -wit: A rock and oil improvement similar in character to that used in the improvement of Palm Avenue west of Main Street ". Gunn and others requesting the improve- ment of the alley between Virginia and Whiting, Streets, from Grand to Folly Avenue. Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the following resolution be adopted: "'W= LAS, it appears that certain residents and property owners of the City of 31 Segundo are willing to pay certain moneys in the sum of :110.00 into the Treasury of the City of E1 Segundo, California, and into the General Fund thereof, for the purpose of causing certain street improvements within said city to be made, and, Whereas said sum has been deposited with the City Clerk of said City with instruction to pay the same into said General Fund upon the adoption of the following: NOW TH REr ORZ, BE- IT HLSOLV&D : That the Street Superintendent be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to cause the portion of that certain public alley within the City of E1 Segundo, California, between Virginia and Whiting Streets, from Holly Avenue to Grand Avenue, to be improved by the construction therein of the following improvement to -wit: A rock and oil improvement, similar in character to that used in the improvement of Palm Avenue, between Main and Hillcrest." Vrhitehead inquired as to the progress that is being made in acquiring certain property for street purposes between Palm and I:iaple Avenues, running east from Liain Street, The City Clerk advised that the City Attorney, who is ill, had advised 'him over the telephone, that the matter is progressing satisfactorily. RE20RTS OF STANDING COL11- ITTr'LS. Trustee Binder of the Public 'Wiorks Committee, reported with respect to the matter of,recommendations for the removal of buildings within the City of :1 Segundo, which matter had been referred to his committee at the last regular meeting for recommendation, that although he had given the matter much thought, he was unable to arrive at a definite conclusion as to such recommendations and by general consent the matter was referred back to the committee for one week. Ui1F INISH Y,D BUSINESS. Moved by 'Trustee Smiley, seconded b:T Trustee Davis, that the bid of.the H. & H. Electrical Company in amount of X113.00, for the installation of a one -third H. t. Motor and an Air Compressor, with all the necessary wiring, piping and labor to install the same, as an addition to the heating plant in the City Hall, be accepted and the said firm awarded said work. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Binder,,Bryson,,Davis, Smiley and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: None. PAYING BILLS. It appearing that certain - organizations have been seeking information as to the possibility of renting the Firemen's quarters one night each week, it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the following resolution be adopted: "R.&SOLVED, that the monthly rental of the Firemen's Amusement Room to organizations other than the E1 Segundo Volunteer Fire Department, the E1 Segundo Band and the emerican Legion, be and the same is hereby fixed at ti10.00 per month for not to exceed one night per week." - Carried. Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the City Clerk be and he is hereby instructed to obtain prices on all metal street signs for the City of E1 Segundo. Carried.
