El Segundo liras called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. L. on the above
date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall by Carl E. ;ueger,
President of the 3oard.

April, 1920-, were read. Uo errors or omissions appearing, it was
moved by Trustee 3ryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the minutes

- Health Officer, Dr. R. S. Anthony, stated that the Board
of Health had held a meeting on the evening of May 4th, 1920, for
the - purpose of considering the disposal of sewage, in as much as
numerous complaints had been received concerning cesspools which
had caved in or were overflowing at the present time. He pointed
out some adyanta -les to septic tanks from a safety, as well as
sanitary standpoint and asked the Board to consider requiring the
installation of septic tanks instead of cesspools in new construction
and when necessary in repairing old construction. The matter was
referred to the Public Service Committee for consideration and
rep .jrt.

ITTEES.
The Public Service Committee reported in favor of the
erection of a portable band -stand for the purpose of permitting
the Standard Oil Band of El Segundo to give weekly public concerts.
As there aupeared to be some difference of opinion as to the location
of this stand, action was deferred one week to permit of consideration
and decision as to location.

City Inspector, Victor D. "icCarthy, tendered his resigna-
tion as such officer, to become effective upon the appointment and
qualifyin of his successor and by general consent the save was
accepted.

month until the further order of this Board; said salary to be
payable monthly as other cit.* salaries are paid. Carried by

=The question of repairinD,it Segundo Avenue, where
damaged near its easterly terminus, was discussed and Trustee
Bryson raised the question of supplying water, which he presumed
would have to be furnished, whether the work is done by the City
or by private contractors. It appearing that it would be in-
convenient and unsatisfactory to supply the necessary water by
tank wagons and very expensive to lay a pipe line from a point
where water is now available, the City Clerk was requested to
communicate with 3r. 'Jill H. Sanders, for the purpose of making
arrangements with him to procure water from a well on his ranch
adjacent to the proposed improvement.

the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to
withdraw from 'aublication the Notice to Contractors on Concrete
Paving now being advertised in pursuance of Resolution passed
at the last regular meetin; and that the Street Superintendent
be and he is hereby instructed to proceed with the improvement
and rejairing with concrete of a Portion of E1 Segundo Avenue
oet,,;een Arizona Drive and In ; lewood- Redondo Boulevard, according
to the plans, vrotile a_ad specifications therefor prepared by the

IMEJ 3USMIESS.
Trustee Rueger suggested that two wooden posts on the
East side of Richmond Street, between E1 Segundo and Franklin Avenues,
were unsightly and an annoyance to pedestrians and suggested that
they be removed. The City Clerk was instructed to communicate with
the owner of the premises in front of which these are erected,
requesting that he remove these posts immediately.

the following Resolution be adopted:
",1HEREAS, this Board has been advised through
reliable sources, that the Attorney General of the
State of California has been requested by petition
of persons representing themselves as residents of
Sawtelle, California, to order the dismissal of a
suit now pending on appeal to the Supreme Court, said
suit being entitled: "The People of the State of
California, . Rel. Chas. Coe, Plaintiff, vs. The
City of Los Angeles, Defendant ", and
FYHEREAS, we believe that said petition emanated
from political and financial sources in the City
of Los- Angeles that are constantly endeavoring
to annex to the City of Los Angeles the small
communities surrounding said city, and
'oTH - t=:AS, we believe through annexation, small
communities suffer the loss of many advantages in
the way of self- government and identity, besides
having to assume a portion of the huge
bonded indebtedness of the City of the City
of Los Angeles, and
W 'Er,AS, a numoer of citizens of the City
of El Segundo, and me.moers of the Chamoer of
Commerce of this City have requested this Board
to take the action hereinafter set forth and
the Board and each of the members thereof is
also desirous of takinx the sa=.ae,

of - trustees of the City of El Segundo, California,
hereby declares itself as opposed to a dismissal
of the before mentioned suit before the same is
determined in the Supreme Court; that the City
Clerk be and he is hereby instructed and directed
to make a minute of the passage of this Resolution
in the Records of the Board of Trus'cees, and that
he be further instructed to forthwith forward a
copy of the same to the Attorney ;"eneral of the
State of California ".
