1920 MAR 10 CC MINTr t. w El Segundo, Cal. -March 10th, 1920. A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. on the above date in the Council Chamber of the City Hall brl'dilliam C. Bryson, President of the Board. ROLL CALL. Trustees Present: Kessels, Smiley, Vandervort and Bryson. Trustees Absent: Ward. READIiJG 02 LINUTLS OF PRr;VIOUS IJEETINGS. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 25th day of February, 1920, were read without error or omission being noted, and it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Vandervort, that the same be approved as read. Carried. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 3rd day of march, 1920 were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Kessels, that the same be approved as read. Carried. The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 4th day of -,;arch, 1920, were read without error or omission being noted and it was moved by 'Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Vandervort, that the same be approved as read. Carried. VIRITTE11 CO NICA`T'IONS. The following communications were read and disposed of as indicated: A petition from Florence Sommers and others requesting improvement of Mariposa Avenue from Hillerest Avenue to the Westerly terminus of said Iari-oosa Avenue was read. On account of the surface of this street being of a very sandy formation and owing to an extreme cut in the grade, a discussion ensued as to whether or not this improvement should be made under the nominal contribution of 15� per front foot. Following the discussion it was ordered that action on the petition be held in abeyance for one week. Trustee Fdard appeared at the meeting during the above mentioned discussion and took his seat, the hour being 7 :55 o'clock P. M. A petition from I. A. Wickham and others requesting improvement of Arena Street from E1 Segundo to Franklin Avenue. It was moved by Trustee Ward, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the following resolution be adopted: "WHEREAS, It appears that certain residents and property owners of the City of El Segundo are willing to pay certain money in the sum of 4150.00 into the Treasury of the City of E1 Segundo, California, and into the General Fund thereof, for the purpose of causing certain street improve:ilents within said city to be made, and, 17HER&AS, Said sum has been deposited with the City Clerk of said City with instructions to pay the same into said General Fund upon the adoption of the following: NOW THEF � ORE, BE IT 'SOLVED; That the Street Superintendent be and he is hereby instructed to cause the portion of that certain public street MW within the City Lof- E1 S'egnndo, California, known as Arena Street, lying and being between Franklin Avenue and E1 Segundo Avenue, to be improved by the construction therein of the following improvement, to -with: A rock and oil surfacing similar to the improvement constructed in Virginia Street, between Grand and Holly Avenues." Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Kessels, Smiley, Vandervort, Ward and Bryson. Noes: None. Absent: None. A letter from -John F. Davis, Attorney, No. 1701 Broadway, Burlingame, California, advising that he is a specialist in Idunicipal Law and soliciting the patronage of the city if they need at any time his special services. Coward and others, requesting the Board to place upon the ballot at the April Municipal Election the question of whether the members of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1' Segundo shall receive 415.00 per month each as compensation for services as such Trustees. Trustee Vandervort, for the Public Works Committee, reported regarding the removal of an embankment at the northeast corner of Sierra Street and E1 Segundo Avenue in front of Lots 1, 2 and 3, of Threlfalls Tract, stating that the property owners request that the City remove the earth to the curb line and that they would remove the balance. It was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Vandervort, that the Street Superintendent be and he is hereby instructed to remove the earth from in front of Lots 1, 2 and 3, Threlfalls Tract, as far as the curb line on E1 Segundo Avenue. Trustee Vandervort stated that he had been approached by a person desiring to purchase the office building North of the City Hall, which belongs to the City of E1 Segundo. It was suggested that in as much as the building is occupied, that it would not be proper to sell the same. Inquiry disclosed that the tenant had not paid his rent and the City Clerk was instructed to collect the same, or ascertain if the tenant does not desire to rent the building. Moved by Trustee Ward, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that Resolution No. 26, entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUST'S OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO , CALIF`ORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING i, OT ICE OF THE HOLDING OF A GENERAL 1JUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON MONDAY, THE 12TH DAY OF APRIL, 1920, FOR THE ELECTION OF CERTAIN L'UNICIPAL OFFICERS OF SAID CITY AitD TG SUBMIT A CERTAIN PROPOSITION TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF SAID ZUNI C IPALI TY" , which was read, be adopted. Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Vandervort, that the City Clerk be, and he is hereby instructed to have a Powers Thermostatic Safety Gas Regulator installed in the heating system of the City Hall at a cost not to exceed SIXTY FI`TE DOLLARS, ($65.00).
