A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El
Segundi was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. b:, on the above date
in the Council Chamber of the City Hall by Carl E. Rueger, President
of the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Binder, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Trustees Absent: - Bryson. -

The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 8th day of
December, 1920 were read without error or omission being noted.
It was moved by Trustee Davis, seconded by Trustee Binder that the
minutes be approved as read. Carried.

The following letters were read and disposed of as indicated:
Petition of C. C. Elsey and others, requesting that street
lights be installed at the corners of iIasiposa Avenue and Arena,
Sheldon and Penn Streets. Moved by 'Trustee Davis, seconded by
Trustee Binder that the requests of the -,petitioners be granted and
that the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed
to authorise the Southern California Edison Company to install
these street lights as an addition to their contract with the City
of Ll Segundo. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Bryson.
El Segundo Lodge IIo. 435 I.O.O.F. , advising that said
organization had voted unanimously to hold only four meetings each
month, relinquishing the fifth Thursday in such months as have five
Thursdays.
Mrs. 1'i. H. Gross, complaining of damage done to trees and
electric wires on East Franklin Street by J. S. Orr when moving a
'building recently. Idoved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee
Davis, that the City Clerk acknowledge this letter, advising the
writer that her complaint is having the attention of the Board of
Trustees. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
City Clerk be instructed to write the Southern California Edison
Company, requesting them to repair wires recently damaged by house
movers as complained of by 11rs. W. H. Gross. Carried.

Street Superintendent A. R. Gunn explained certain of his plans
with respect to garbage collections and requested that complaints
respecting; collections be -referred to him personally.

Trustee Binder of the ?ublic :corks Committee reported that
he had had a conversation with Lr. '.7. W. Phillijis concerning the

trees which were cut down on the South side of Grand Avenue between
Concord and. Richmond Streets by his partner, 1dr. W. E. Morgan, and that
air. Phillips stated that they regretted the occurrence, which was
occ_= .sioned through a misunderstanding of the verbal :)ermit issued by
the Street Superintendent.
Trustee minder reported that he had investigated the damage to

trees and property on East Franklin Street, caused by house movers
recently and he found that the building was not moved over the route
specified in the application for the permit and that a number of trees
were destroyed or more or less mutilated.
Following discussion, it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded
by Trustee Davis that the Street Superintendent be and he is hereby
authorized and instructed to replace all trees damaged on Franklin
Avenue by J. S. Jrr while moving a house; also those removed by IIr.
i7. E. l:lorgan on the South side of Grand Avenue between Richmond and
Concord Streets; to keep an accurate record of the cost of said
replacement and to charge the same respectively against the deposit
made by Lir. R. B. Young when applying for a house moving permit and
against i<_r. I;,,. E. ilorgan. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Hinder, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.

Recommendations concerning amendment to the existing plumbing
ordinance were made by Mr. I'. H. Jenson and filed with the Board in
writing. It was suggested by the Chair that the Clerk arrange for
a meeting of the plumbers and persons interested in these proposed
changes during the coming week:
The Clerk advised the :Board that no additional petitions
for constructing sidewalks and curbs on Virginia Street North of
Palm Avenue had been filed with him and that the promoter of the
petition asking the Board to take action in the matter of constructing
sidewalks and curbs on the West side of Virginia-Street between Palm
and kaple Avenues, which was presented to the Board at its last regular
meeting, had intimated to him that in view of the suggested cost,
the petitioners would drop the matter; following which it was moved
by Trustee Smiley, seconded by 'Trustee Davis that further consideration
of-the matter of constructing sidewalks on Virginia Street North of
Palm Avenue be postponed indefinitely. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Hinder, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that
the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to street
purchase a sufficient number of 4 x 4 Redwood posts to properl� sign
the city at a cost not to exceed 4200.00, and that the Street
Superintendent be and he is hereby instructed to inform the Clerk of
the number of posts needed. Carried by the following vote:

Clerk be and he is hereb instructed to advise the regular renters of
the auditorium in the City hall that in future permission for the use
of said audibrium at times other than their regular meeting nights must
first be obtained from the Board. Carried.

City Clerz. be and he is hereby instructed to write the various
organizations using the City Hall Auditorium, requesting that they
assist all possible in minimizing the expense of maintaining the building
by economizing in the use of electricity in so far as is possible.
Carried.
B,y general consent, the City Clerk was instructed to write the
various organizations using the City Hall Auditorium requesting them to
relinquish its use on the fifth meeting night in every month in which
occurs five - eeting nights.

:.:iss Lipman be uermitted to use the City Hall Auditorium on the evening
of Dec. 29th or 30th, providing she obtains the consent of the organiza-
tion who would ordinarily use the Hall on that night and provided further
that the customary rental fee of w7.50 be paid to the City Clerk. Carriked.
