The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 21st day of
April, 1920,'were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved
by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Binder, that the minutes be
apgroved as read. Carried.

The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:

3uilding Inspector. Ordered filed.
CHESTER DEETOi1, an application for a permit to discharge fire arms
within the City of E1 Segundo. moved by Trustee
Davis, seconded by Trustee Binder, that Chester
Denton be granted a permit to discharge fire arms
within the City of .E1 Segundo for not exceeding
a period of one year from date and subject to
State Laws and Ordinances of the City of -:1 Segundo
regulating the use of such fire arms. Carried.
PACIFIC LECTRIC

on the ground leased from them for municipal
purposes. riled.
DR. R. S. .1ZITH0 TY, requesting permission to construct a cement drive-
way from the Street into his premises at 414
Virginia Street. Also that he be granted permission
to straighten an existing frame garage building on
Lot 24 in 31ock 12 on the Best side of Richmond
Street between El Segundo and Franklin Avenues.
Lloved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by 'Trustee Binder,
that permission be gi•anted Dr. R. S. Anthony to
construct a cement driveway from the street into
his premises at 414 Virginia Street; same to be
constructed in a neat and workmanlike manner and to
the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent;
also that he be granted permission to straighten
the one story frame building used for garage
purposes and situated on the 'Jest side of Richmond
Street between El Segundo and Franklin Avenues,
subject to the provisions of ordinances covering such
wore: and the approval of the Building Inspector.

i::r. L-1. Griffin addressed the Board with reference to providing
a band stand for the 1 Segundo Band, stating that the same
would cost approximately 4250.00 and that the project had the
approval of the Chamber of Commerce, which body would cooperate
to the exten& of aiding and securing funds if necessary.
The matter was referred to the Public Service Committee.

For the Public Idorks Committee, the City Clerk reported that
the marble in the Ladies Rest Room had been reset and is now in good
condition.
Trustee Binder of the Public ,forks Committee stated that the
Street Superintendent is going to make an incinerator for use-at the
City- Hall.
City Engineer, Arthur Cory, reported that he had taken levels
and prepared an estimate and specifications for the improvement of
the damaged portion of the Easterly end of El Segundo Avenue.
Trustee Bryson appeared at the meeting -at this time and took
his seat, the hour being 8 :00 o'clock P. I1.
The engineer's estimate for concreting five hundred feet was
approximately 42800.00. The matter was discussed at some length,
following which it was moved by '.trustee Smiley, seconded by 'Trustee
Bryson, that Resolution No. 27, entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD

City Clerk -be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to advertise
for bids for the furnishing of labor and material and constructing
eleven (11) thousand square feet of- concrete pavement on a portion
of E1 Segundo Avenue, said notice to be published by three insertions
in the El Segundo Herald and by one insertion in the Southwest
Builder and Contractor. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.

Ldoved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Hinder, that the
City Attorney and the City Engineer be and they are hereby instructed
to prepare an ordinance establishing zhe grade on Virginia Street
from E1 Segundo Avenue to Collingwood Street in conformity with
the plan for such grade submitted by the City Engineer at this meeting.
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Trustee Bryson advised that the Standard Oil Company had
granted permission to ig made in their shop,wire screens to be used
as protectors of the globes on the electroli -ers at the several
entrances to the City. By general consent the City Clerk was
instructed to place an order with the Standard Oil Company for
the construction of six of these screens.
The matter of appointing a new building inspector was then
discussed; action thereon being deferred one week.

City Clerk be instructed to order a set of tools for the Fire

President Rueger states he had received a letter from the
Christian Science Society, in whist, they expressed the opinion
that perhaps they should not have been charged for the use of the
Auditorium on the 3rd day of Qril, on which date they used the
Auditorium for the purpose of holding a free lecture. The Board
concurred in this opinion and the City Clerk was instructed to send
the Secretary of the Society a demand, so that claim might be
presented for the amount.
Trustee Davis stated that his attention had been drawn to
the fact that there were _times when the fire engine was left
unattended. The matter was referred to the Public Safety Committee
for attention.

Trustee 3ryson stated that the Odd Fellows desired to use
the Council Chamoer for a short time on the evening of April
29th, in connection with their reGular meetin- in the City
Hall on said date and by zeneral consent such permission was
granted.
President :ueser stated that in his opinion an electrically
driven motor should be installed on the heating apparatus in
the City Hall for the :)urpose of generating the air pressure
necessar = to su�pp1;- oil fro-r", tiie tank to the burner, the
present water pressure pumj to be used as an auxiliary for
e-- ,er�ency ♦purposes to the electrically driven air compressor.
The matter was taken under advisement.

the Nall Club be jranted the use of the City Hall Auditorium
on the evenin of .gay 8th, and that the customary fee of
,-;7.50 for the use of same be collected by the City Clerk.
