A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El
Segundo was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. on the aUOVe date in
the Council Chamber of the City Hall by Carl E. Rueger, President of
the Board.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley L Rueger.
Trustees Absent: None.

The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 19th
day of April, 1920, were read. No errors or omissions appearing, it
was moved by Trustee 3ryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley that the
minutes be approved as read. Carried.

The following communications were read and disposed of as
indicated:
H. J. B =iRB , being his resignation as City Recorder, to take effect
at the pleasure of the Board. Ordered Filed.
2. D. GARDNIM, being his application for the position of Building
Inspector of the City of E1 Segundo. Ordered filed.

FIRE DEPARTI:I&a1T, thanking the Board for the manner in which the head-
quarters had been decorated and equippod. Ordered
filed.
C. F. TUR11ER, Proprietor of the
E1 Segundo Garage, requesting permission to construct a driveway
across the sidewalk adjoining an addition to. his
building on the North side of Grand Avenue East of
Main Street.
It was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson,
that permission be granted C. F. Turner to construct a cement drive-
way across the sidewalk adjoining his building on Grand Avenue East
of Lain Street, said work to be done in a neat and workmanlike manner
and to the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent of the City of
E1 Segundo,, Carried.

Dr. R. S. Anthony, President of the E1 Segundo Chamber of
Commerce, unofficially extended the Chamber's congratulations to the
new Board of Trustees, adding that he hoped a spirit of friendly
cooperation would exist between both bodies.

Building Inspector, Victor D. McCarthy, stated that he had no
objection to his salary as Building Inspector being adjusted from April
19th, 1920. It was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson,
that the following Resolution be adopted:
"RESOLVED that the salary of the Building Inspector
on and after the 19th day of April 1920, be.and the same
is hereby affixed at the sum of 41.00 per month until
the further order of this Board ".
Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.

Absent: gone.
The City Engineer asked that if possible some decision be reached
in the matter of adopting the grade on Virginia Street from El Segundo
Avenue to Collingwood Street as per the profile submitted by him. The
matter was discussed at length and action deferred one week pending a view
of the ground by the entire Board; 5 :30 ?. ICI., April 22nd, 1920, being the
date set for the same.
The matter of repairing the Easterly end of E1 Segundo Avenue by
constructing a concrete pavement in a portion of such roadway which is now
in a damaged condition was discussed at length. The City Clerk was
instructed to obtain permission for the City to construct a detour around
this damaged portion of the roadway while the same is being repaired from
the person having charge of the farm property adjoining El Segundo Avenue
on the South and the City Engineer was instructed to prepare specifications
and estimates of the cost of such work upon which the Board might decide
whether to construct such improvement themselves or have it done under
contract.

Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the demands
be allowed, and warrants for same drawn on the General Fund. Carried by
the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Binder, Bryson, Davis, Smiley and Rueger.
Noes: Hone.
Absent: None.

%roved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Davis, that the
following Resolution be adopted:
"RESOLVED that the Bond of I�Iinta Curtzwiler, as
Treasurer of the City of E1 Segundo, submitted in the
sum of T IE JTY 'I7L THOUS UD DOLLARS, (025,000.00) with
the -Fidelity & Deposit Company of Maryland as surety,
dated April 19th, 1920, be and the same is hereby
approved." Carried.
President Rueger stated that L. A. 7.1ard had complained to him that
the Southern California Gas Company had failed to comply with their
promises to supply gas to four dwelling houses, including his own, on
i7alnut Street, hest of Virginia. The City Attorney advised that each
of the persons desiring gas should make application to the Gas Company
direct for such service and the nature of the replies received by the
applicants would determine what action, if any, should be taken by the
Board of Trustees.

Trustee Davis reported that he had received numerous complaints
concernin;; the water supplied in E1 Segundo by the El Segundo Water Company,
especially at points where there were no dead ends and a free circulation
of water at all times.
Health Officer Dr. Anthony was given permission to speax at this
time and stated that it is the usual thing at this time of year in
California for the water supply to have a peculiar odor and taste, but
that there is nothing harmful in these. He further stated that he
intended sending samples away for analysis this week.

The City Clerk reported that a piece of marble in the Ladies'
Rest Room was becoming detached from its anchor in the wall and should be
repaired before it is broken and someone injured. The matter was referred
to the ?ublic .forks Committee for attention.
the City Clerk again drew attention to the need of an incinerator
for burninL waste Da-oer and debris accumulated in and around the City Hall.
The matter was referred to the I'ublic Works Committee for attention.
No further business appearing, to be transacted at this meeting,

Meeting adjourn. Carried.
