Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El
called to order at 7:30 o'clock P. X. on the above date, in the
Chamher of the City Hall, by Sydney R. Martin, President of the
ROTS, CALL.
Trustees present: Bryson, Smiley, Ward, and Martin.
Trustees absent: Fork.
READING MINUTES PREVIOUS MEETING.

The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 17th day of September,
1919, were read without error or omission being noted, and it was moved by
Trustee Ward, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the same be approved as read.
Carried.
Trustee Work appeared at this time and took his seat, the hour being
7 :40 o'clock P. M.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on the 20th day of
September, 1919, were read without error or omission being noted, and it .was
moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Ward, that the same be approved
as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COLiMUNICATIONS.
The following communications were read:
From Clark Pease, Chairman Finance Relief Committee, soliciting assist-
ance for the victims of a tidal wave and hurricane which recently visited
Corpus Christi, Texas, causing the loss of many lives and the destruction of
much property.
From the El Segundo School Board, asking permission to remove Eucalyp-
tus trees from Mariposa Avenue.
From the League of California Municipalities notifying city officials
of the Annual Convention of said League to be held in Riverside October .20,
to 24th inclusive.
From the Calif. State Board of Health, thanking the Board of Trustees
for the interest displayed in Public Health Matters by providing for the
expenses of the Health Officer at the Annual Convention to be held in River-
side, October 20 th 24th.
Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Work, that the communi-
cations be filed. Carried.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS.
After the announce4ient of this orderof business, the Chair declared a
recess of five minutes, the hour being 7:45 o'clock P. ICI. The Chair called
the meeting to order and business was again resumed at 7 :50 o'clock P. M.
Andy B. Powell, City Recorder, addressed the Board, stating that no
blame should attach to City Attorney Woodworth in connection with a case
recently heard before him, the termination of which had caused some public
criticism and notoriety, as the City Attorney's instructions were correct,
but misunderstood in being relayed over the telephone.

Trustee Work reported that Kr. Griffin of the Standard Oil Co. was pre-
pared to fix the Council table at any time, and that the cost would be about
$15.00. After discussion, it was moved by Trustee Work, seconded by Trustee
Bryson, that the Council Table be remodeled to permit map of the City to be
laid flat on its top, at a cost not to exceed $20.00. Carried by the follow-
ing vote: Ayes: Tru:-tees Bryson, Smiley, Ward, Work, and Martin.

be and he is hereby authorized to purchase plate glass for top of Coun-
cil table, at a total cost not to exceed $50.00. Carried by the follow-
ing vote: Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Smiley, Ward, Work, and Martin.

UNFINI SHED BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the El
Segundo School Board be granted permission to remove Eucalyptus trees.
from the North side of Mariposa Avenue between Richmond St., and Cohoord
St., as applied for. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Work, that the lullwy
matter of raising funds to help the Corpus Christi, Texas, victims be
referred to the President of the Board to make such arrangements as
he sees fit. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Work, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the City
Clerk be and he is hereby authorized to attend the Twenty -first Annual
Convention of the League of California Municipalities at riverside, Cal.,
October 20th to 24th, 1919, and to file demand for his expenses in connect-
ion therewith for a sum not to exceed $10.00 per day. Carried by the
following vote: Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Smiley, Ward, Work, and Martin.

Moved by Trustee Work, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the City
Engineer be and he is hereby authorized to establish the grades on Main
St. from El Segundo Avenue to Collingwood St., and on Mariposa Avenue
from gain St., to the Westerly terminus of said Mariposa Avenue. Carried
by the following vote:

NEW BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Work, that the City Attor-
ney and the City Engineer be and they are hereby instructed to prepare the
necessary proceedings for the closing of the alleys in the blocks owned by
the E1 Segundo School District , viz. Blocks Nos. 83 and 84, as requested
by the E1 Segundo School Board. Carried by the following vote:

City Engineer Cory verbally requested the Board to consider raising
his compensation to $8.00 per day and was informed that the matter would
be taken under advisement.
Beloved by Trustee Work, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the City
Clerk be and he is hereby authorized to purchase diffusing lenses, mirror,
signaling device, one pair demountable wheels with rims and one extra rim,
and one tire and tube all for use on the Street Department's track, at
a cedt not to exceed 4100.00. Carried by the following vote:

Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Work, that W. C. Grimes
be granted permission to use the auditorium for a dance on the evening
of October 11th, upon payment of the rental fee of $7.50. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the American
Legion be granted free use of the Council Chamber on the evening of October
2d, 1919. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Work, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the City
Clerk be authorized to purchase cipies of existing Plumbing Ordinances,
at a cost not to exceed $25.00. Carried by the following vote:

No further business appearing, it was moved by Trustee Smiley,
seconded by Trustee Ward, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
