Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo was
called to order at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on the above date, in the Council
Chamber of the City Hall, by Sydney R. Martin, President of the Board.
ROLL CALL
Trustees present: Smiley, Work, and Martin.
Trustees absent: Bryson, and 10lard.
READING MINUTES ?MYIOUS IMETITiG.
Trustees Bryson appeared immediately after the announcement of this
order of business, and took his seat, the hour being 7 :40 o'clocg P. LI.
The minutes of the meeting held on the 21st day of May, 1919, were
read. No errors or omissions appearing, it was moved by Trustee ?'fork,
seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the same be approved as read. Carried.
WRITTEN COLMUNICATIONS.
The following written communications were read:
From the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County, enclosing
certified copy of resolution passed by said Board, consenting to the
annexation of Lot 10 Tract No. 3303 to the City of E1 Segundo.
From Arthur 'if. Cory, City Engineer, stating that his work would re-
quire his absence for from three to five months and requesting that en-
gineering matters be referred to Mr. Wetherbee during his absence.
From the Southern California Liberty Loan State Central Committee
stating that this City was not eligible to compete in the awards of cap-
tured German cannon.
A petition from J. E. Howell and others, requesting the improvement -
of Virginia and Concord Sts., from Grand to E1 Segundo.Avenue, in the'same
manner Richmond St. was handled.
r From the United States Rubber Co. quoting $1.30 per foot for 22 inch
3 -ply cotton rubber lined hose, and .90 per foot for the same size double
Jacket hose.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the same be
filed. Carried.
ORAL COLULrUNI CAT IONS.
Mr. C. E. Rueger stated that in connection with a petition preBented
the Board of Trustees some time ago requesting the erection of a recreation
hall, he desired to draw the matter to the attention of the Board, so that
it might be considered at the proper time during this meeting.
'1r. J. H. Lashbrooke for the Bi- Lateral Fire Hose Co. quoted $1.38
per foot for 22 inch double jacketed hose, and submitted samples of same.
Lir. E. R. Crawford for the American Rubber Mfg. Co. quoted $.70 and
$.75 Der foot for different brands of single jacketed hose and $.90, $1.00,
and $1.10 per foot for different brands of double jacketed hose and sub-
mitted samples of each brand.

RE?ORTS OF SPECIAL C OI;L:ITTEES.
The City Attorney reported that he had attended the meeting of the
City Attorney's Association of Southern California held May 24th, 1919,
and that the plan to combat increased rates of the pacific Electric Ry.
Co. was to employ engineers and accountants to make examinations of plant
and accounts to determine if any raise was or now is justified. To pay the
expenses of the examination, it was suggested that the cities contribute
a sum not to exceed . 50.00 per 1000 inhabitants.

The City Clerk reported that the El Segundo 'Water flampany had advised
him, in answer to his letter concerning changing the outlets on fire hy-
drants, that their Superintendent would confer with the Committee on Public
Works.
U11 F1NI SIED BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Smiles, seconded by Trustee Work, that the following
resolution be adopted:
W=HFAS, it appears that certain residents and property owners of the
City of El Segundo are grilling to pay certain moneys in the sum of $307.50
into the Treasurery of the City of E1 Segundo, California, and into the
General Fund thereof, for the purpose of causing certain street improve-
ments, within said city to be made, and,
17HEEEAS, said sum has been deposited with the City Clerk of said City
with instructions to pay the same into said General Fund upon the adoption
of the following:
NO'.7 THEFEFORE, BE IT R -73OLVED: THAT the Street Superintendent be and
he is hereby authorized and instructed to cause the portion of that certain
public street within the City of E1 Segundo, California, lying and being
between Grand Avenue and L-laripo sa Street, on Whiting Street, to be improved
by the construction therein of the following improvement, to -wit: Grading,
and rock and oil, from, curb to curb, similar to the improvement work on
Frank, in Avenue and on Virginia Street.

improvement of Concord St. and Tirginia St., it was moved by Trustee Work
Seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the improvement of Virginia and Concord
Streets be made. Carried by the fo 'llowing vote:

The erection of an amusement hall was discussed, and various
citizens of E1 Segundo expressed their desire that the building be ereoterd
making suggestions as to arrangements they would like for the accommodation
of the Band, Ball Club, and young men of the city. By genera1 consent, it
was decided that this meeting would adjourn until Monday, the 2nd dap of
June, 1919, at 7 :30 o'clock P. at which time the matter would be given
rther consideration.
The Southern California Edison Company's contract for street lighting
was presented, and approved as to form by the City Attorney. Moved by
Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the fol.16wing resolution

. for furnishing electrical energy for illuminating fifty -four lamps for

VF,11 BUSINESS.
The City Clerk announced that no suitable place was available for
use as a polling place on July 1st, 1919, and that the use of the Council
Chamber for that purpose had been requested. Lloved by Trustee Bryson,
seconded by Trustee Fork, that permission to use the Council Chamber as
a polling place on July 1st, 1919, be granted. Carried.
Do further business appearing, it was moved by Trustee Smiley,
seconded by Trustee ;fork, that the meeting adjourn until 1donday, the
