was called to order in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, by Sydney

C. F. TRACY, asking permission to grade a portion of the street in front
of Lot 14, Block 105 to the official grade at his own expense.
11oved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee 'Hard, that per-
mission be granted �. F. Tracy to level to the official grade
at his own expense, and to the satisfaction of the Street
Superintendent, that portion of Main St. being on the East
side of Lot 14, Block 105. Carried.
FRANK L PERRY, City Attorney of Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach, requesting
the Boards'attendance at a meeting of officials of the beach
cities at the Manhattan Beach City Hall for the purpose of
devising ways and means of abating the Hyperion nuisance.
Letter ordered filed.
JOHIa B. WORK, being his resignation as a Trustee of the City of E1 Segundo,
requesting acceptance at once. Moved by Trustee Smiley,
seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the resignation of John B.
Fork, as Trustee of the City of E1 Segundo, be accepted, to
take effect i:::mediatley. Carried.
H. J. ��I0j;IIO11D and others, a petition for the improvement of Franklin St.
The petition being incomplete, it was ordered returned for
completion.

REPORTS OF STANDING COIdMITTEES.
Trustee Smiley for the Public Safety Committee reported that the fire t�
engine had been repaired, and that the mechanic who did the work did not
consider that the scored cylinder needed reboring or replacing at the pre-

Engine Company will make an inspection of the Work done at this time,
and will then recommend what, if anything should be done with the
cylinder.
REPORTS OF S21EIAL COL u-ITTEES.
The City Attorney requested one week's extension of time for the
preparation of the lease of the Leasure Building.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
The City Attorney stated that the City Engineer had informed him
that he had finished his work in connection with fixing the grades on
1daripo sa Avenue and 1y :ain St. The City Engineer was instructed to submit
to the City Attorney all data necessary for the preparation of Ordinances
establishing the official grades on said streets.
The matter of purchasing ten feet off all lots on the North side of
Grand Avenue from Concord St. to the Westerly city limits, for the purpose
of widening Grand Avenue was discussed and the City Clerk instructed to
correspond with the owners to ascertain at what price their respective
portions could be purchased by the city.

The Chair stated that the janitor had reported to him some defect
in the heating and drainage systems of the city hall. Matter referred to
the Public Works Committee.
The City Clerk stated that Idr. Marvin Griffin had suggested that a
wire glass panel be substituted for the wooden panel in the upper part
of the door separating the fire engine room from the main corridor in
the city hall, and that a door check be placed upon the same door as a
measure of safety in event of a fire in the fire engine room. The City
Clerk was instructed to obtain prices on the articles needed.
Iuloved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Idard, that the American
Legion be granted free use of the Auditorium on the evening of December
13th, 1919. Carried.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Ward, that Arne Nordskog
be granted use of the Auditorium for a musical recital on the evening of
December 20th, 1919, upon payment of the usual fee of $7.50. Carried.

resolution be adopted:
RESOLVED, that Perry Vandervort be appointed to the office of member
of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo, made vacant by the re-
signation of Trustee John B. Work, (being the same office to which John R.
Coward was elected to and resigned from) to assume the duties of his office
upon his subscribing and filing the required oath of office. Said Trustee
shall hold office as provided in Section 854 of Act 2348, General Laws of
the State of California. Carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Smiley, Ward, and Martin.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Trustee '.lard stated that the E1 Segundo Volunteer Fire Department
desired the city to furnish the quarters recently rented for them. There
being no information on hand as to their actual needs, the City Clerk was
instructed to correspond with the Firemen requesting them to file in writing
a list of their needs.
No further business appearing, it was moved by Trustee Smiley, second-
ed by Trustee Bryson, that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
