An adjourned regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of
El Segundo,-California, was called to order at 12:00 o'clock Noon, on the
-above date, in the City Hall, Carl Ernest Rueger, President of the Board
presiding.
Roll -Call.
Trustees Present: Coward, Iiartin, Smiley, Ward, and Rueger.
Trustees Absent: None.
READING I,.INUTES PREVIOUS FETING.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, and seconded by Trustee Coward, that the read-
ing of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed withq, The motion
carried.
WRITTEN C01ILTNICATIONS.
A communication from the Standard Oil Company in which they offered
to supply 'E' Grade Calol Asphaltum at a price of t12.75 per ton of 2000
pounds, f. o. b. tank wagons at the E1 Segundo Refinery, was read.
Moved by Trustee Smiley and seconded by Trustee Martin, that the
communication be filed and the motion carried.

Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Ward, that the Board take
up the matter of the consideration of the bids for the furnishing of all
Asphaltum necessary for the improvement of Ballona Avenue and Main Stand
the awarding of the contract for. same. The motion carried by the following
vote: Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Following discussion, it was moved by Trustee Coward, and seconded by
Trustee Smiley, that the following resolution be adopted:
WHEREAS, pursuant to notices duly given requesting the same, the Board
of Trustees of the City of El Segundo, upon the 27th day of March, 1918,
received bids for the furnishing of all the ashhaltum necessary for the
improvement of Ballona Avenue and Iuain Street within said City, as contem-
plated_ in the plans and specifications therefor, on file in the office
of the City Engineer, and,
WHEREAS, on said 27th day of March, 1918, all bids therefor were open-
ed and publicly declared in regular session of said Board had on said date,
and,
WHEREAS, at said meeting said bids were by motion duly made, seconded
and carried taken under advisement until the present meeting of this Board,
and,
WHEREAS, said Board has this date duly considered all of said bids so
submitted for furnishing said material, and,
WHEREAS, said Board has determined that the action hereinafter taken
is for the best interests of the said City, and will best subserve the pub-
lic interest and necessity therein,
1101.7 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that all bids received for furnishing
all of the asphaltum necessary far the improvement of Ballona Avenue and
Main Street within said City, as required in the notice inviting the same,
be and the same are hereby rejected.
The motion to adopt the foregoing resolution was carried by the
following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Irartin, Smiley, ",yard, and Rueger.
Noes: Trustees None.
Absent: Trustees Done.
Move'- by Trustee Smile-j, and seconded by Trustee Coward, that the
City Clerk be authorized to employ such help as he finds necessary in
connection with the mailing of notices of the Municipal Election to be
held on the 8th day of April,1918.

City Clerk be authorized to purchase a gasoline coupon book or the use of
the City Engineer, at a cost not to exceed 10.00, same to be charged
to the Street Improvement Bond Interest and Redemption Fund, 1918.
The motion carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Liartin, Smiler, :';ard, and Rue Per.
Noes: None.
Absent : None .
No further business appearing, it was moved by Trustee Smiley,
and seconded by Trustee ''lard, that the meeting adjourn, and the motion
carried.
