1918 MAR 20 CC MIN172 El Segundo, California, March 20th, 1918. Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo was called to order at 7:30 o'clock P. I;i. on the above date in the City Hall, Carl Ernest Rueger, President of the Board being in the chair. ROLL CAZL . Trustees present: Coward, Smiley, and Rueger. Trustees absent: Martin and Ward. READING MIINUTES PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the previous meeting were read. No errors or omissions being noted, it was moved by Trustee Coward, and seconded by Trustee Smiley that the same be approved, and the motion carried. IJRITTEN COMLIMICATIONS. A petition from C. A. Brittain and others, praying the extension of Arena St., from Palm Avenue to Belleview Ave. along the Nest side of lots 3 and 8, in Blocks 93, 1009 and 103. Loved by Trustee Smiley and seconded by Trustee Coward, that the same be filed and the motion carried. ORAL COI.qu'UNICATI ONS . Mrs. Fellison presented a letter from Mrs. E. A. Chase, owner of lot 39 in block 100, requesting that her name be disregarded on a petition requesting a street along the Nest side of said lot, which was read by the Clerk. I1rs. Fellison, and Messrs. Brittain, Neimeyer and Erickson addressed the Board concerning the extension of Arena St. The City Engineer advised that he had seen the property, and that the logical way to open streets in the acres would be East and Nest. He added that this however, would work a hardship on some property owners, who had built homes in anticipation of streets running North and South. Action with reference to the matter was deferred,to be taken up under the head of unfinished business. Ray Kemper presented for approval, a map of a subdivision of Acre in Block , but as the map did not show the new Tract number and other details, its approval was postponed. None. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMXITTEES. With reference to the telephone franchise, the City Attorney reported that a franchise matter was pending in another City and that it would be well to await the outcome of same before proceeding further with the matter here. The President reported the arrival of the Heating Kettle. The Street Supt* reported that the same was in good orders following which it was moved by Trustee Corvard, and seconded by Trustee Smiley, that tj.e Board of Trusteesbeing satisfied that the report of the Street Supertntendent relative to the Heating Kettle furnished by the Good Roads Machinery Co. is correct, therefore be it resolved that the same be accepted. The motion carried by the follo::'ing vote: Ayes: Trustees Cociard, Smiley and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: Trustees I<dartin and Ward. The Southern California Ellis on � Company's contract for street lighting was presented, and approved as to form, by the City Attorney. Trustee Sr:iley introduced and moved the adoption of the following resolution: RESOLVED, that the contract with the Southern California Edison Company, for furnishing electrical energy for illuminating fifty -three lamps, at the monthly rental of y1.25 per lamp, and bearing date this date and effective Idarch 15th, 1918, be and the same is hereby approved, and I ?UREB the President of the Board of Trustees and hereby authorized to execute said contract do. Trustee Coward seconded the motion to carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Coward, S,.iley and Noes: None. Absent: Trustees 1artin and Ward. 1 =t° the City Clerk be, and they are on behalf of the City of El Segun- adopt the resolution and the same Rueger. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. Loved by Trustee Coward, and seconded by Trustee Smiley, that petitions requesting the extension of Arena Street be laid on the table. - Carried. PAYING BILLS. The motion carried by the following vote: Ave s: Trustees Coward, Smiley and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: Trustees T:Tartin and Ward. NEM' BUSINESS. Idoved by Trustee Coward and seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the City Engineer be instructed to "purchase a two inch water meter at a cost not to exceed 0100.00. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Coward, Smiley and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: Trustees Martin and Ward. The City Engineer reported that he had had a conference with Mr. Burton and Mr. Foster of the Pacific Electric Rye Co. relative to the installation of a spur track at Ballona Ave. and Arizona Drive and that Mr. Burton was going to submit drawings and estimates of construction of spur under two plans. The City Clerk reported that Homer We Glidden Architect on the City Hall had filed his certificate showing the sum of 42000.00 due Darrell Condley, the contractor for the general work on said building, which said certificate was read. It was then moved by Trustee Coward, seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the following resolution be adopted: WHEREAS by certificate of Homer S. Glidden, Architect, it appears that the sum of $2000.00 is properly due Darrell Condley, as per his contract with the City of El Segundo, NOTE THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the said sum of X2000.00 be paid in accordance with said contract out of the City Hall Bond Interest and Redemption Fund, 1918. The resolution was adopted by the foll -owing vote: Ayes: Trustees Coward, Smiley and :�ueger Noes: None. Absent: Trustees Yartin and Ward. i,_oved by Trtistee Coward and seconded by Trustee Smiley, that the City Engineer be authorized to buy cfilverts to be used on Ballona Avenue and Ltain Street, at a cost not to exceed $299.00. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Coward, Smiley and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: Trt? st ees Martin and Ward.
