Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo was called to order at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on the above date in the City Hall, by Carl Ernest Rueger, President of the Board. ROLL CALL. Trustees present: Bryson, Coward, Martin, Ward, and Rueger. Trustees absent: None. READING MINUTES PREVIOUS MEETING. The minutes of the regular meeting held on the 5th day of June, 1918, were read without error or omission and upon motion by Trustee Ward, seconded by Trustee Bryson, which carried, they were ordered approved as read. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS. Messrs. Franklin and Ormes, of the Zellerbach Paper Company show- ed samples of Toilet articles for the new City Hall to the Board and quoted prices for the same. Purchasing was postponed until a later date to be determined before adjournment. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. Letters from the following were raad: G. A.,Davidson, State Director of War Savings, requesting the Pres- ident to issue a proclamation designating June 28th, 19189 as War Savings Day. J.. W. Henderson, tendering resignation as City Marshal and Street Superintendent, to become effective on or before July lot, 1918. E. C. Henderson applying for the position of Marshal and Street Supt. Moved by Tradtee Ward, seconded by Trustee Martin, that the letters be filed. Carried. None. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES. The City Attorney reported that he endeavored to get in touch with Miss Gleason, the County Librarian, relative to moving the E1 Segundo County Library from its present location to the new City Hall. Miss Gleason was not in, but he talked with Miss Jones, who stated that a sim- ilar arrangement was in operation at only three other cities, viz., Bur- bank, Huntington Park, and Manhattan Beach, in each of which places, lights heat, janitor service, etc., were gratis, and if the City of E1 Segundo were willing to provide quarters under the same conditions, she thought the County Board of Supervisors would authorize acceptance. The City Attorney reported that he had arranged with J. Stitt ^�ilson, to speak at the formal opening the new City Hall, on the evening of June 21st, 1918, but that the Board would be required to defray his ex- penses, amounting to $25.00. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. With regard to the Ordinance changing the names of the streets now known as El Segundo Avenue and Ballona Avenue, the City Attorney reported that it was unwise to introduce such an ordinance before absolutely correct legal descriptions were acquired, and that the City engineer had been un- able to procure these owing to their 1 enghth and his other duties. Moved by Trustee Martin, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the City Attorney be instructed to extend to the Board of Supervisors, an invitation to house the local branch of County Free Library in the quarters provided for same in the new City Hall, it being understood that water, lights, and janitor service be rendered without charge. Carried. 7_7 Moved by Trustee Martin, seconded by Trustee Ward, that the resig- nation of J. W. Henderson, as City Marshal and Street Superinteddent be accepted, same to become effective at midnight May 31st, 1918, the com- pensation of said official to cease at said time. Carried. Moved by Trustee Ward, seconded by Trustee Martin, that J. Stitt Wilson be engaged to speak at the City Hall on the evening of June 21st, 1918, and that his expenses, not to exceed $25.00 be allowed and paid out of the Petty Cash ^und o' the City of E1 ;,egundo by the City Clerk. The following demands against the City Hall Bond Fund were approved by the Committee on Finance and Records, and read: Foley's $250.00 Union Hardware and Metal Company 1.25 Total -251.0 Moved by Trustee Coward, seconded by Trustee Martin, that the demands be allowed and warrants for same drawn on the City Hall Bond Interest and Redemption Fund, 1918. Carried by following vote: Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Coward, Martin, Ward, and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Trustee Ward, seconded by Trustee Bryson, that the follow- ing resolution be adopted: WHEREAS the members of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo have examined and are satisfied with the present condition of the City Hall of the City of E1 Segundo, as erected by Darrell Condley, Contractor, and WHEREAS said building is now practically iWoa_!Oompleted state, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Board does hereby formally accept said structure on behalf of said City, except the matters set forth Electric Fixtures Venetian Blinds Name Plate Extra Platform in Auditorium Finish Hardware AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the demand of the said Darrell Condley in the sum of $2,220.32 on the City Hall Bond Interest and Redemption Fund, 1918, as per the contract of. the City of E1 Segundo with the said Darrell Condley, be and the same is hereby approvedand allowed and that a warrant be drawn in payment of same. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Coward, Martin, Ward, and Rueger. Noes: None, Absent: None. Moved by Trustee Bryson, seconded by Trustee Martin, that the Chair appoint a committee to look up necessary music and hire same and make all arrangements for the opening of the City Hall on Friday, the 21st day of June, 1918. Carried, by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Coward, Martin, Ward, and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: None. Trustees Bryson and Ward were appointed the committee by the Chair. The Marshal reported that he -had appointed M. R. Castillo a Deputy Marshal. Moved by Trustee Coward, seconded by Trustee Martin, that the appointment of M. R. Castillo as Deputy Marshal be approved. Carried. Moved by Trustee Martin, seconded by Trustee Ward, that Homer N^. Glidden, Architect, be authorized to have a suitable check installed on the doors-of the Fire Apparatus Room at a price not to exceed $27.50. Carried by -the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Coward, Bryson, Martin, Ward, and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: None. The City Clerk reported that the manager of the telephone Company'ha& informed him than a main line telephone in *he City Hall would cost $14.50 for the exchange - service and $1.00 per month for each extension not to axose three an said _single party line. Moved by T- rustee Canard, seconded by Trustee Ward, that the Clerk be authorized to have a single party line in- :y stalled in the City Hall, together with four telephoass, at a monthly rental not to exceed $17.50 per month. Carried by the following vote: r. -Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Coward, Martin, Ward, and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: None. City -By general consent, the City Clerk was instructed to have the;,Piano in City -Hall tuned before Friday, June 21st, 1918. Moved by Trustee Ward, seconded by Trustee Martin, that Trustee Bryson be authorized to have the ceiling in the Fire Apparatus Room plastered, at a cost not to exceed $50.00. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Bryson, Coward, Martin, Ward, and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: None. No further business appearing, it was moved by Trustee Martin, seconded by Trustee Ward, that the meeting adjourn until 12:00 o'clock noon on Friday, the 14th day of June, 1918. Carried.
