1918 JAN 30 CC MINR1 Segundo, Cal., January 30th, 1918. Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo was called to order at 7:30 o'clock p. m. on the above date by Carl Ernest Rueger, president of the Board. ROIL CALL. The minutes of the previous meeting were read without error or omission being noted, and upon motion by Trustee Coward, seconded by Trustee martin, which carried, the-T were approved as read. 7FRITTI21 C01,:k1UNICATIONS. A letter was received from A. P. Garnier, 1.1anufacturers' Agent, ask- ing the Board to remenber the Federal Siren when they were ready to install the fire alarm apparatus. Audit report was received from ". 0. Lewis, covering his examination of the books and records of the City Marshal, City Treasurer and the City Clerk. !.loved by Trustee Coward and seconded by Trustee l.artin, that the cor =nicatior. and report be filed and the notion carried. Health officer Davis stated that he had received a communication from the City Clerk of Santa _lonica, in which he advised that that city had been receiving '3.00.per ton for old cans, f. o. b. Santa Monica, and said he was going to investigate further to see if this city could not dispose of, its cans on the sane terms. City Attorney Woodworth reported that he had taken the matter of cover- ing cans now on the sand hills, up with Mr. Hanson of the Los Angeles City engineer's office and was told that these cans need not be covered at this time, but that no more cans should be dumped on the Tos Angeles property. W. E. !:organ asked the Board to remember him if they desiret to insure the L:unicipal Shed or Road liachinery. W. C. Bryson desired to know if a clause could not be inserted in the building Ordinance regulating the cost of str tures to b erected in the residential district. The City Attorney in orme h that itt on matters of this nature, as the public peace, health and safety was not in- volved. REPORTS OF SPECIAL C0::u17T TEES . The Clerk reported that he had made arrangements with the Geo. J. ?ir'_Tel Co., relative the purchase of piano, whereupon it was moved by Trust- ee Coward, and seconded by Trustee martin, that a warrant in the sum of Two Hundred Tlinety Nine and T!o /100 ($299.00) be drawn payable to George J. Birkel Company, and that the same be delivered by the City Clerk to said seor -e J. Birkel Company upon delivery of a good and sufficient Bill of Sale to that certain `Ibeelock Player Piano, ilo.33243 free and clear of incumbrance, and that said warrant be paid when presented. The motion was adopted by the following vote: ryes • Trustees Coward, l;;artin and Rueger. Noes: Trustees None. Absent: Trustees Smiley and Ward. Unfinished Business. The lease to the ground of the Pacific Electric Ry. Co., being used for a corporation yard, was presented for execution, but a limitation to the storage of Engine Distillate, was drawn to the Board's attention by Trust s oward and Rueger, and by general consent, the matter was referred to�`ao�""adjustment with the Pacific Electric Ry. Blue Print Co. 19.33 Pacific Telephone 9; Telegraph Co. 1.30 $466 .62 It was moved by Trustee Coward, and seconded by Trustee Martin, that the demands be allowed and warrants drawn for same, and the motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: Trustees Smiley and Ward. NEW BUSINESS. The president advised the Board that he had heard that the road roller would reach E1 Segundo on Thursday. Trustee idartin introduced Ordinance No. 32, entitled: "AA? ORDI'N,A2?CE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, t +GUTA TING THE SALE OF BR2:AD Ai'D FIXING THE STA2 DARD OF WEIGHTS THE. HFOR. ", and the same was read. At 8:45 o'clock p. m., immediately after the rending of Ordina=te No. 32, the @hair declared a recess of five minutes. At 8:50 o'clock p. m., the president recalled the meeting to order and the Board resumed the regular order of business. It was moved by Trustee artin, and seconded by Trustee Coward, that the City Clerk request-Mr. Reed, St. Supt. of Redondo Beach, to come to E1 Segundo to confer with members of the Board relative to improving certain streets, and-that the expense incident thereto, be borne by the City. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Coward, iaartin and Rueger. Noes: None. Absent: Trustees Smiley and Ward. President Rueger fererred to the order.-Oof materials without the full knowledge of a majority of the Board or at least the chairman of the oom- mittee for whose department materials are ordered, and it was understood amongthe members that any one Trustee would not again order materials until he had obtained the approval of the chairman of his committee, and large expenditures would be broug)rt to the attention of the entire Board. There being no further business, it was moved by Trustee Martin, and seconded by Trustee Coward, that the meeting adjourn and the motion carried.
