Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of
was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. m. on the
Hall, president Rueger being in the chair.

Trustees absent: Martin.
READING MINUTES PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. No errors or omissions
being noted it was moved by Trustee Smiley, and seconded by Trustee Cow-
ard, that tLey be approved and the motion carried.

None.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.
Trustee Smiley, for the Public Safety Committee, reported that the
trees in front of the Scholz house on Concord Street were in good con-
dition and conform to the - others in that district, and moved that the
appli-oation of Mr. Scholz for their removal, as presented at the meeting
held on the 12th day of September, 1917, be refused. Trustee Coward sec-
onded the motion and it carried.
Trustee Martin appeared at the hour of 7 :50 o'clock p. m.
-REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES.
The Street Superintendent reported that he had investigated the con-
dition of Eucalyptus trees on Eucalyptus Drive, as directed at the last
meeting, and found that they should be trimmed.
It was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Yard, that the
Street Sup t. be authorized to trim the trees on Eucalyptus Drive suffic-
iently to make the sidewalks passable, the motion being passed by the
following vote:
Ayes, Trustees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.
Noes, None.
Absent, Bone.
Trustee Smiley spoke to the board concerning the weeds and grass
obstructing sidewalks in parts of the city, and moved the adoption of the
following resolution:
"RESOLVED that the Street Superintendent be, and he is hereby author-
ized to employ a man, or men to out weeds and grass from the parkings on
streets where necessary, under the direction of the Public Works Committee.
Trustee Coward seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and the
same was passed by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Martin, that the petitions
for street lights be referred to the Public Service Committee, for report.
The motion carried.
Paying Bills.
.The following Demands were presented , approved by the Committee of
Finance & Revenue, and read:
Mr. D. C. Lewis - Collecting Garbage and cans, 8 -15 -17 to 9- 15- 17- $30.00
Standard Oil Company, Labor and Material furnished city 33.15
Total 63.15
It was moved by TrusteeCoward, the motion being seconded by Trustee e
Ward, that the Demands be allowed and warrants drawn for same. Carried by
the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
NEW BUSINESS.
Mr. McKnight, Manager of the Southern California Edison Company was
invited by the Board to address them relative to the procedure and expense
of installing additional lights in E1 Segundo. He stated that more lights
could be addend at any time and that in most cases of over -head construction,
the Edison Companystood the expense. He concluded by saying that he woubd
be at the service of the Board or its committee at any time.
The City Clerk re orted that he had received from the County Auditor,
warrant in the sum of 5066.62, being additional refund to this city out
of the fund .of Road District No. 4, and that the E1 Segundo State Bank
could not take the money on deposit, &that they questioned the authority
of the preBident of the Board to endorse the warrant on behalf of the
city. Following discussion, Trustee Coward moved the adoption of the
following resolution:
"RESOLVED that the President of the Board of Trustees, and the City
Clerk be, and they are hereby authorised to endorse the warrant drawn on
the Treasurer of I,os Angeles County, in the sum of Five Thousand Sixty
Six Dollars, Sixty Two Cents,($5066.62) and dated September 17th, 19179.
and to cash the same, delivering the proceeds therefrom into the city
Treasurery." . Trustee Smiley seconded the motion to adopt the fore-
going resolution and the same was passed by the following vote:

Trustee Smiley moved the adoption of the following resolution:
"Resolved that the President of the Board of Trustees of the
Oity of E1 Segundo, and the City Clerk, be, and they are hereby authorized
to rent on behalf of the city a safe deposit boa for city purposes"
The motion'to adopt *his resolution was seconded by Trustee Ward
and the resolution passed by the following vote:
Ayes: Trhatees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, Seconded by Trustee Martin, that the
meeting adjourn, and the motion carried.

A petition from Reginald Moore and others, requesting the
installation of street lights on certdin corners mentioned in the petit-
ion, was read, and it was then moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by
Trustee Ward, that the same be filed. The motion carried.
