E1 Segundo, Cal., June 27th, 1917.
Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo
was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock . I In the City Hall on the above
date, with.president Rueger in the Chair.
ROLL CALL.
Trustees Present: Coward, Smiley and ueger.
Trustees Absent : laartin and Ward.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read; no errors or omiss-
ions being noted, it was moved by Trustee Coward, seconded by Trustee
Smiley, that they be approved and the motion carried.

Letter from 1.1oise Klinker Co., advertising railroad warning signs
was received and read, also one from C. D. Goldthwaite, expressing his
desire to have an opportunity to bid on the erection of the proposed
new city hall.
It was moved by Trustee Smile::, seconded by 'Trustee Coward, that
the letters be filed and the motion carried.

REPORTS OF SPECIAL COIL,ITTEES .
City Attorney Woodworth reported that he had conferred with the
County Counsel with reference to the status of the E1 Segundo Lighting
District and learned that the same had been formed prior to XIEZ iZ August
8th, 1 0,15 and that therefore, the County Auditor could not permit the
payment of money from the fund of this district, unless the City of E1
Segundo, or the Southern California Edison Co. would agree to indemnify
him against loss. It was understood that the latter had agreed to do this.
Unfinished Business,
Ordinance 170. 16, entitled:
AN ORDINAivCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO
REGULATIUG THE USE OF FIRE CRACKERS, TORPEDOES, FIREWORKS AND DISPLAY
=10SIVES OF ALL KINDS iVITHIN 3AID CITY, which was introduced at the
regular meeting of the Board of Trustees held on the 20th day of June,
1917, was read, whereupon it was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by
Trustee 1dartin, that the same be adopted, and the motion carried by the
following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, 1.1artin, Smiley, lard and Rueger.
Noes: none.
Absent: None.
NEW BUSINESS.
A petition dated June 20th, 1917, by George Draggoo and others was
read, asking the Board of Trustees that petitioners be organized into
a company of the E1 Segundo Volunteer Fire Department.

Coward, Smiley, that the follow-
ing resolution be adopted:
"Whereas there has this date been filed with the Board of Trustees
the petition of the following named persons: to -wit: 111. A. Koch -i.. K. Kelly
G. 7T. Draggoo - Ed. Bryson - A. F. Fitzgerald- S. Dowrey
D. D. .IcKenzie - P. Binder - E. R. Fitzgerald- L. A. Snyder
Grover I17oore - Perry Vandervort - C. Peabody - J • Gright .
requesting that they be organized into a company under the Constitution
and By -Laws of the E1 Segundo Volunteer Fire Department, as the same now
exist,
Yow therefore, be it resolved that the said petition be granted and
the said above named persons are hereby duly authorized to organize as a
company of the El Segundo Volunteer Fire Department. Said company shall
as2ume its duties under the Constitution and By -Laws of the said Department
and shall be governed thereby, upon the election of its officers and the
confirmation thereof by this Board. Said company shall be designated as
Company 7-o. 1 of said Department.
The resolution was adopted by the following vote:

shal be authorized to deputize two policemen to patrol the city on the
4th of July to guard against fires, their compensation not to exceed
$3.00 per day. The same carried by the following vote:
