Regulat m eating of the Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo
was called to order at 7 :30 o'clock P. M. on the above-date in the City
Hall, president Rueger in the chair. _
ROLL CALL.
Trustees present: Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.
Trustees absent: None.
READING MINUTES PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read without error or omiss-
ion being noted and it was moved by Trustee Coward seconded by Trustee
Ward that the same be adopted. Carried.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS.
From H. R. Boynton Co., advertising Flag Poles.
From the California League of Municipalities announcing Twentieth
Annual Convention to be held at Santa Rosa during the week commencing
September 24th, 1917.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Coward, that the com-
munications be filed. Carried.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.
None.
Reports of Special Committees.
With reference to the supposed error on the part of the County, when
refunding to this city from the Road Fund, the City Attorney reported that
he had spent an entire day in the Office of the County Auditor, and that he
found a discrepancy which he was sure would redound to the City, possibly
as maoh as already received, depending upon the report given the Board
of Supervisors by the Auditor and their attitude after receiving same.
City attorney reported that he had made application for specifications
adopted by the County Board of Supervisors for the improvement of Ballona
Avenue, and that he was to appear at,their neat meeting, at which time
he expected, action to loan the plans to this city would be taken.

Trustee Martin moved the adoption of Ordinance No. 189 entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF TER CITY OF EL SEMM,
FIXING THE AMOUNT OF MONEY NECESSARY TO BE RAISED BY TAXATION UPOS TEN
TAXABLE PROPERTY THEREIN AS A REVENUB TO CARRY ON THE VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS
AND PAY THE BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF SAID CITY FOR THE CURRENT YW 1917-
1918, which was introduced at a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees
held on the 15th day of August, 1917. Trustee Coward seconded the motion.
Considerable discussion ensued relative to the amount of the Taz levy.
and Trustee Smiley vol oed his objection to the same.
The ordinance was adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin, Ward and Rueger.
Noes: Trustees Smiley.
Absent: None.

Trustee Coward moved the adoption of the following resolution; to be
numbered.5-, entitled as follows:
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE FISCAL YEAR FOR SAID CITY.
Trustee Martin seconded the motion and the 94mras adopted.
PAYING BILLS.
D. C. Lewis, presented demand for $30.00, for services rendered in
collecting garbage and rubbish, duly 15th, to August 15th, 1917. The
demand having been approved by the Committee of Finance and Revenue, it
was moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Martin, that the same
be allowed and warrant drawn for same. The motion carried by the follow-
ing vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
NEW BUSINESS.
Trustee Smiley moved the adoption of the following resolution:
RESOLVED that the City Attorney prepare a lease for the rental of
one American La France Type 12, 105 Horse - power, double eithty gallon
motor chemical fire extinguisher, said lease to run for a period of five
years at a total rental of $5375.00 for said period, and submit the same
to this board.
Trustee Coward seconded the motion and the resolution was adopted
by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.

Trustee Martin moved that the Street Superintendent be instructed
to have signs suitable for the direction of travelers to this City,
prepared and *rooted at Bellsview Ave. and the Redondo Boulevard andoor. of
IM Arizona Avenue and Bellieview Avenue., and that the some officer be
instructed to- repair Rolly Avenue, between Virginia and Whiting Sts,
Trustee Smiley seconded the motion, and the same carried bythe
following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Moved by Trustee Smiley, seconded by Trustee Martin, that the following
resolution be adopted:
RESOLVED that the City Attorney prepare the necessary instruments and
direct the necessary proceedings for calling an election, submitting to
the voters of the City, propositions to vote municipal bonds of the City
of El Segundo, for the following purposes, to wit:
For Fire Equipment for the City of E1 Segundo.
For a City Hall and Fire Hall combined.
For the improvement of Ballona Ave. from the westerly line of the
Redondo Boulevard to the Westerly line of Virginia St., and Main St.,
from the Northerly line of said Ballona Avenue to ZM connect *ith the
present good road on Main St., North of El Segundo Avenue, and be it further
RESOLVED that said City Attorney be allowed such associate counsel as
he may designate, to act with him in all of said Bond proceedings, such
associate counsel to receive for their services, from the City of E1 Segundo
such oompensationand fee as may be reasonable and customary in such matters.
The resolution was adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Coward, Martin, Smiley, Ward, and Rueger.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
Moved by Trustee Coward, seconded by Trustee Ward, that this meeting
adjourn until the 27th day of August, 1917 at the hour of 7 :30 O'olook
