ESBBC in Action • Expanding presence of Eriogonum parvifolium in local neighborhoods i • Volunteer -led native planting and hillside habitat ! , maintenance • Beachside tours during ESBB's active season • Eagle Scout and youth service projects • High school internships • Elementary STEM program participation & book readings • Native seed collection, propagation, and implementation of local library seed project • Presence at community events like ArtWalk, Poet Laureate workshops, Farmers Market • Ongoing outreach to a growing network of 350+ community supporters 1� ESBBC/Eagle Scout Project: Jayden Zenaye • Completed his Eagle Scout project in dedicated support of the El Segundo Blue Butterfly Conservancy. • Led a significant hillside weeding effort to remove invasive species and improve habitat conditions. • Organized and executed native species planting to strengthen the restoration area. • Delivered an educational presentation highlighting the Conservancy's mission and long-term habitat restoration goals. 10 ESBBC/Eagle Scout Project: Colin Boushell • Conducted in-depth research on the hillside habitat to support restoration education efforts. • Designed and created seven educational plant identification signs for native species. • Helped visitors better understand the ecological importance of native plants within the restoration project. i S..dM �M- 0 ESBBC/Eagle Scout Project: Zachary Cumming • Designed and installed a permanent educational kiosk explaining the purpose of the hillside habitat and ongoing restoration work. • Created a structure that will serve as the future trailhead for a planned walking trail. • Enhanced visitor engagement by providing clear guidance and educational context for the site. 1 ESBBC Interns Sarah Spraggins & Cara King • Authored, illustrated and published a children's book focused on the El Segundo Blue Butterfly (with a grant secured from the ES Arts & Culture Committee) • Expanded community engagement, especially among youth, by making conservation education accessible and inspiring • Book sales benefit more plantings • Recognized by Senator Allen ESBBC Impact • Expanded community awareness of the endangered El Segundo Blue Butterfly and fortified its habitat with over 1,000 new plants • Strengthened ESBB habitat health through invasive removal and native planting, organizing 25 planting/maintenance days • Enhanced and engaged civic pride, organizing over 1,500 volunteer hours of manual labor • Transformed more than 11,000 square feet of hillside into a restored ecosystem and a community learning space, in partnership with ES Recreation & Parks and Eagle Scouts • Broadened the path of the ESBB by inspiring seacliff buckwheat plantings in over 100 residences and nearly all ESUSD sites f
