2012-10-11 PC Minutesi MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA October 11, 2012 Chair Wagner called the El Segundo Planning Commission meeting to order at CALL TO ORDER 5:30 p.m. in the El Segundo City Hall's Council Chambers, 350 Main Street, El Segundo, California. Chair Wagner led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. PLEDGE TO FLAG PRESENT: WAGNER, BALDINO, NISLEY, NICOL, and NEWMAN ROLL CALL None. PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS Chair Wagner presented the Consent Calendar. CONSENT CALENDAR None. CALL ITEMS FROM CONSENT Vice Chair Baldino moved, seconded by Commissioner Nisley, to approve the MOTION September 27, 2012 Minutes. Motion carried (5-0). None. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS None. NEW BUSINESS — PUBLIC HEARING None. PUBLIC HEARING CONTINUED BUSINESS Planning and Building Safety Director Sam Lee informed the Commission that the REPORT FROM October 25, 2012 meeting will be cancelled and the next meeting would be on PLANNING AND November 19, 2012. BUILDING SAFETY DIRECTOR None. PLANNING COMMISSIONERS COMMENTS Presentation regarding the proposed Top Golf project at the City's golf course OTHER BUSINESS "The Lakes". Economic Development Analyst Ted Shove and Randy Starr, Chief Development Officer of Top Golf presented a PowerPoint presentation. Lou Adler, El Segundo resident Mr. Adler believes it's a good concept but believes that the Lakes is a good facility. His main concern is that the economics makes sense for the Golf Course. She is in support of the facility coming to El Segundo. Brvan Lewis former Tournament Director at the Lakes of El Segundo Mr. Lewis shared various comments from Face Book postings. He believes that the Lakes needs to be renovated. Jason Hathley, El Segundo resident Mr. Hathley stated that he is not a golfer but he has visited the facility. He is concerned about Top Golf not being honest about its branding. Dexter Taylor Manhattan Beach resident Mr. Taylor stated that the Lakes offers South Bay area. He believes that Top improve the art of Golf. He also was turned down the facility. a great location as a focal point for the Golf is good for entertainment but not to concerned about why other communities Michael DeAngelo, Redondo Beach resident Mr. DeAngelo stated that he is a scratch golfer that visits the Lakes everyday and believes it is not feasible for him to pay $30 a day just to hit 100 golf balls. Craiq Kessler Government Affairs, Southern California Golf Course Association Mr. Kessler stated the Lakes have been a well maintained facility as well as providing the great programs that it offers for beginners to intermediate levels. Madeleine Taylor Manhattan Beach resident Ms. Taylor stated that she takes lesson at the Lakes and is on the Coastal Golf team. She plays golf to get away from technology and believes that taking away the driving range will take away from the existing facility. Mike Dugan, El Segundo resident Mr. Dugan encourage that improvements be made to the Lakes facility and that the City takes into consideration what the community is saying. He is concerned about the Junior and Senior programs and wants them to continue at the Lakes. Closed Public Communications.
