The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, with certain statutory exceptions, can only take action
upon properly posted and listed agenda items. Unless otherwise noted in the agenda, the public can only
comment on City -related business that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Diversity, Equity,
and Inclusion Committee.
Members of the public may also provide comments electronically by sending an email to the following
address, with a limit of 150 words and accepted up until 30 minutes prior to the meeting:

the volume of communications, the emails will be read to the Committee during public communications.
NOTE: Emails and documents submitted will be considered public documents and are subject to disclosure
under the Public Records Act. and possibly posted to the City's website.

At this time, members of the public may speak to any item on the agenda or within the DEI Committee's
jurisdiction. Before speaking, you are requested, but not required, to state your name and address for the
record. If you represent an organization or a third party, please so state, and if you have received value of
$50 or more to communicate to the DEI Committee on behalf of another, or if you are an employee
speaking on behalf of your employer, you must so identify yourself prior to addressing the DEI
Committee pursuant to ESMC 1-8-4. Failure to do so shall be a misdemeanor and punishable by a fine of
$250. While all comments are welcome, the Brown Act does not allow the DEI Committee to take action
on any item not on the agenda.

A. CALL TO ORDER — The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm.
B. ROLL CALL
Committee Members Present: Emily Atmore, Steven Gebhart, Valerie Green, Lewis Hill, Shad
McFadden, Christibelle Villena

C. PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS
No public comment.
D. PRESENTATIONS
E. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES
Motion to approve the April 10, 2024 meeting minutes was made by Member Green and
seconded by Member McFadden.
Motion carried 6-0.
F. COUNCIL MEMBER LIASION COMMENTS
Council Member Giroux discussed the DEI Committee bylaws and potential recommended
changes.
G. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. DEI Membership
The Committee determined that bylaw revision will be put on hold until the DEI
interviews are completed and they are able to determine the status of the vacant
positions.
2. Juneteenth
Chairperson Villena stated that she met with the Juneteenth Committee, and Black in
Mayberry is actively fundraising for the event. Villena also requested that there be a
DEI Representative present to speak at the Juneteenth event.
3. United Against Hate Week
The Committee discussed that United Against Hate Week begins on Saturday,
September 21It this year, and determined that the candlelight vigil will take place on
Thursday, September 261h. Ideas from the June 1 1 rh United Against Hate Meeting will
be brought to the next DEI Meeting.

4. Vice -Chair Position
The Committee voted 6-0 that Member Atmore will fill the Vice -Chair Position.
I. REPORT OF SUBCOMMITTEES
1. Data and Resources Team — Chairperson Villena and Member Atmore stated that they
will be meeting with the Chiefs.
2. City Engagement Team — Will nominate candidates for a business award, student
award, and community award.
3. Community Relations Team — Working on an Aerospace Corporation event that will
occur in September.
J. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMUNICATION — Limited to 5 minutes per member
Lewis Hill — Discussed that the Committee should better understand the City Council goals
for the DEI.
Valerie Green — Mentioned that Sea Change is hosting an event on June 13'h at the El Segundo
Public Library in the Sue Carter Room.
Christibelle Villena — Acknowledged Council Member Giroux's assistance to the DEI.
Emily Atmore — Acknowledged the previous problems that El Segundo has faced with
diversity in the community, but also acknowledged progress.
Shad McFadden — Stated there is still unfinished business to be addressed and completed
within El Segundo.
Steven Gebhart — Stated his appreciation for the discussion about the goals and focus of
the Committee, and how using data could assist in addressing future problems.
