PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS
One member of the public attended the meeting and did not have any comments at
the time of the meeting. No comments were received via email.
ORDER OF BUSINESS
1. Fire Department
o Local Hazard Mitigation Plan update- The Plan has been
submitted to City Council for review and adoption. Public review
and survey will start 09/04/25 on social media, the Fire Department
website, and a printed copy placed at selected locations.
o EOC Project update- Electrical and generator testing underway,
with 2026 scheduled for RFP, purchase, installation, and testing of
equipment.
o Current EOC shortwave capabilities- The Emergency
Management Coordinator has a meeting next week with the El
Segundo Amateur Radio Group to discuss shortwave capabilities.
o CERT program update- The Emergency Management Coordinator
has CERT Program Manager training in November, will begin
program planning after.
o Planning for a tabletop exercise- A surprise -scenario tabletop
exercise tentatively scheduled for Spring 2026.
2. Police Department- The recent active shooter training was discussed,
with mutual aid training occurring with the South Bay partner agencies.
3. Public Works- Work is being performed on the new EOC, and there
was discussion on the possibility of public outreach covering
earthquake retrofits.
4. Recreation and Parks- Additional active shooter training was
discussed, as well as the potential to provide shelter during disasters.
5. Community Development- There was a discussion on working with
Code Enforcement and the Fire Department to mitigate the fire danger
of overgrown foliage around homes.
6. Information and Technology- IT's incident response plan and a
recent DHS security assessment were discussed. An emergency
push notification system to city devices will be investigated.
7. El Segundo Unified School District- The ESUSD's School Safety
Plans, site -based procedures, staff training, and district
communications systems were explained, and the ESUSD's close
partnership with the El Segundo Police and Fire Departments was
highlighted.
