Urgent Request: Maintenance Needed for El Segundo Tennis Courts

Dear El Segundo City Council Members and Recreation & Parks Team,
I am writing as a long-time resident and frequent user of the El Segundo tennis courts —
especially those at Recreation Park (401 Sheldon St) —to express my growing concern over their
current condition.
Although we pay booking fees to reserve court time, many courts are no longer fit for play:
• Torn / sagging nets: Some nets are ripped or uneven, making it difficult or unsafe to rally.
• Deteriorating court surfaces: Cracks, worn-out lines, and uneven patches are increasingly
common.
• Signs of neglect: Court areas are often littered with debris, and faded boundary lines make
play confusing.
These issues directly impact safety and enjoyment, and they fall below the standards we expect
from publicly funded facilities.
I respectfully request the following actions:
1. Immediate replacements of torn nets and resurfacing of any dangerously cracked courts.
2. Formal inspection of all tennis facilities to identify further maintenance needs.
3. Development of a regular maintenance plan to prevent deterioration moving forward.
As residents who pay to reserve these courts, we hope the city will take prompt action to ensure
safe and well -maintained facilities_ It would be greatly appreciated if you could share a timeline
or planned schedule for repairs.

can restore the tennis courts to a quality standard.
