Mayor and Council Members -
Please support the budget for a staff position to build our City's arts programming and reputation. This aligns with
youth education, connections for elders, economic development/events/tourism, and bringing more beauty and
reflection to our community.
Thank you.

Mr. Mayor and Council members,
I write today as an El Segundo resident and career civil servant, having spent my career in municipal
government. I understand the budgetary constraints and difficulties that continuously plague our
municipal institutions, especially heading into this uncertain new fiscal year for many. It is with this
knowledge that I urge the Council to carefully consider and approve the master plan presented this
evening by the Arts & Culture Committee. I also strongly urge the City to prioritize the recruitment for
the Cultural Arts Coordinator. Our City has enjoyed many benefits of the programming and events
allowed by allocated funds and managed by this important position over the years.
While we civil servants are always asked to trim the budgets and "do more with less", the goal has
always been to maintain services. I urge the Council to recognize the absolute value of City employees
and the programs, events, and tangible benefits provided to the community by their hard work during
this budget cycle, and recognize the value that Arts bring to the community. Our Arts & Cultural
programming has been some of the biggest draws for residents, businesses, and visitors throughout
the years. From the Juneteenth to the Art Walk to the Festival of Holidays, El Segundo has been
making news and attracting economic benefits. I urge the Council to continue the momentum and
recognize the importance of Arts & Culture in the broader scope of community health, pride, and well-
being.
Thank you,
Melissa Cueto
