2025-03-18 CC Agenda - Public Communication - Misc. - Renovictions2025-03-18 CC AGENDA PUBLIC COMMUNICATION - MISC. - RENOVICTIONS Outlook "Renovictions" in El Segundo From Anya Goldstein <anyagoldstein@gmail.com> Date Tue 3/18/2025 4:46 PM To ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS <ALLELECTEDOFFICIALS@elsegundo.org> Dear Mayor Pimentel, Mayor Pro Tern Baldino, and Councilmembers Giroux, Keldorf, and Boyles, I was saddened and angered to learn from public comments at the last City Council meeting that Bryan Ballinger and Patricia Padilla of BD Management are embarking on their fourth building's worth of "renovictions" in our town. This time, it seems they are evicting a 91-year-old woman who has lived in the building for 35 years, as well as many others. would urge you to put in place tenant protections for renovictions. I understand that tenant protections can be in tension with creating more rental housing units. That is why I also urge you to encourage more infill housing development as well as new housing east of PCH. Clearly, what we need most in El Segundo is more supply. My understanding from the annual housing element report is that we have made dismal progress on creating housing this past year, with only 28 building permits issued in 2024, all at the "above moderate" income level; and none for multi -family (2+ units per structure). We need you to encourage housing development here, not stifle it. Please pursue policies that will bring housing into town. And please consider the effects on the supply of rental and other housing in town when you debate adjacent matters, like parking requirements for mutt -family housing like you are considering today. Thank you, Anya Goldstein Over 10 year resident, homeowner, small business owner, and member of the Sweat Equity Alliance
