expense, replace:
➢SCE existing overhead electrical distribution lines
➢AII "Fiber Optic" communication lines (Trans Telecom)
➢AII other communication lines on the poles

Location
• Recently, some businesses expressed interest in relocating to
Lai rport Street
• Additional electrical transformer capacity would be needed
• Idea is to not only underground utilities along Lairport, but to
add additional capacity to the transformers as well
Note: Funds from Rule 20A Program cannot be used to upgrade the
transformer's capacities

Funding
• Available funds are sufficient to cover the estimated cost of the
project which is $1,020,000.00
• Undergrounding of Lairport Street to be done in two phases:
➢Phase 1: from Mariposa Ave to 600 feet to the North, at an estimated
cost of $1, 020, 000.00
➢Phase 2: Remainder of the undergrounding of Lairport all the way to
Maple Ave.
*Note: Phase 2 to be done if and when funds become available

Requirement
• City must pass a resolution to establish an "Underground Utility
District" before SCE can initiate the design of the
undergrounding.
• Subsequent to the adoption of the ordinance,
the design in coordination with other utilities,
project, award the construction, and perform
inspection/construction administration.
• Project Schedule:
➢Design: 6 to 9 months
➢Construction: 9 months to 1 year

Recommendations
• Adopt a Resolution to establish an "Underground Utility District"
along Lairport Street, from Mariposa Avenue to Maple Avenue,
so that Edison may proceed with the design of undergrounding
the utilities as part of the Rule 20A Program.
• Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
