Dear Mayor Boyles and Council Members -
I am writing to express my serious concerns about the new commercial auto insurance requirement for Recreation
& Parks instructors and its potential impact on the invaluable enrichment programs that serve our community's
children.
As a parent and small business owner, I understand the challenges of meeting the varied requirements of larger
enterprises. Companies like Comcast (who I work with) often waive standard insurance requirements in their
contracts to accommodate smaller businesses, recognizing that these requirements can be overly burdensome
and unnecessary. I believe our city should adopt a similar approach to support the instructors who provide such
essential services to our children.
My son Oliver's experience illustrates the critical role these programs play. After struggling in a subpar private
after -school program, he found a nurturing second home at Family Wellness Studio. The personalized attention
and holistic care he receives there have transformed his life, fostering his happiness and growth. Losing ,this
program and others like it due to bureaucratic red tape would be a significant blow to countless children and
families.
The enrichment programs offered through Recreation & Parks are the heart of our community, providing diverse
opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive. As a city, we must find a way to support the small businesses
and instructors who make these programs possible while addressing any, legitimate concerns.
I urge you to work collaboratively with these small businesses to find a mutually acceptable solution. The well-
being of our children and the vibrancy of our community depend on your leadership and commitment to
protecting these vital programs.
Thank you for your attention to this pressing issue. I am confident that together, we can ensure that these life -
changing programs continue to serve our city's youth for years to come.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Scheftic
