Subject: Parking permit discussion item
I understand the issue of the pilot parking permit program is on the agenda for this week's city
council meeting. I am unable to make it but wanted to share some feedback on the program.
I am located at 1531 E Mariposa, 2 houses West of Washington going North and at the dead end
of Washington going South.
I attended the meetings for the initial program rollout because I knew it would have a negative
effect on those of us on Mariposa, because the cars that used to park on the permit streets would
ultimately end up in front of our houses. I expressed concern and was told consideration could be
made for those of us just outside the permit area. As soon as the program started, I emailed for
assistance and was told no permits would be considered because we were out of the "city council
approved zone". See email thread below.
When I inquired about it again at another meeting, I was told those of us on Mariposa who have an
issue need to bring our own petition for parking. We do not have enough houses affected by this
permit area, to meet the minimum required, so we struggle with lack of parking now.
In addition to the fact that all streets North of Mariposa have to find parking on Washington North,
on street sweeping days, we have to park blocks away and when events happen such as Run for Ed
and the most recent ESFD, they closed Mariposa and Washington North. So we can't park on
Washington South due to a permit issue and the others are closed, so we are walking even farther
to get to our cars.
I would like to request an exception to the parking permit program to allow residents proven to be
negatively affected by the permit process to be allowed to apply for a permit. The City public
works department or whichever department is responsible for issuing the permits should have
some discretion and guidelines to review requests for permits on a case by case basis.
Thank you for your time in reviewing this email and consideration of exceptions, should the pilot
program be approved to remain in place.

Good morning,
Thanks for reaching out to us. The "Preferential Parking Permit Zone 3" was a Public
Hearing item which went to the City Council, and the established zone does not include
any streets to the north of Mariposa. Consequently, no permit can be issued for any
address which is not within the city council established zone.

Subject: Permit question
Hello Mr Corpuz-
I wanted to inquire about the process for residents just outside the permit area to apply for a permit. We
live on the North side of Mariposa where Washington St ends into Mariposa Ave. We already struggle daily
with the lack of parking in front of our house and it will only get worse when this permit goes into
place. We only have 2 spaces near our house because the remainder of the areas around us are red
curbs. Due to my husbands job, we are unable to park in our driveway so the street parking is vital to
us. When our kids come back from college with their cars, our parking situation gets even more
challenging.
The reason I am inquiring about a permit is that due to the lack of parking on Mariposa, we often have to
park on the Washington St that is south of Mariposa and during street sweeping days that is the only place
we can park. In addition, anytime we have guests over they have to park in that new permit area
too. There is no other parking available for us especially on street sweeping days because the Washington
St that is North of Mariposa Ave, is full of cars belonging to people parking and going to the airport and the
overflow from the apartments.
This is something I brought up during a couple of the neighborhood meetings and I was told it would be
considered.
Can you please let me know how these type of permits will be issued and also, what the process will be for
the residents at the end of Mariposa Ave near the new parking permit areas to be heard when the already
limited parking situation gets even worse after the permit areas -start?
Thank you for your time,
