2024-11-19 CC Agenda - Public Communication - Misc. - Hiltop Park Basin2024-11-19 CC AGENDA PUBLIC COMMUNICATION - MISC. - HILLTOP PARK BASIN From: Deborah Deets <deborahallisondeets@icloud.com> Date: November 19, 2024 at 10:52:09AM PST To: ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS<ALLELECTEDOFFICIALS@elsegundo.org> Subject: Hilltop Park Basin Area subject: PUBLIC RECORD Hilltop Park Basin; CIP development; Date: 19 November, 2024 To ES Elected Officials, I have enjoyed living and working in this town for nearly 40 years. I have always known our Civic leaders to be respectful, responsive and to serve with due diligence in their park (CIP) development outreach efforts. We still see this transparency on projects other than at the Hilltop Basin Site on Maryland St. When we asked about the site and ongoing (current?) construction we were invited to come back to a meeting to hear about plans for a "grass field". Irrigated turf may be the plan, but even so, there is still an opportunity to develop the site as a natural garden where local -children and families can enjoy birds and butterflies without the parking, use, noise, and traffic impacts of an active recreation area. But this has been discussed and planned with AYSO. We are not interested in hearing about a "done deal" that was publicly acknowledged on several occasions. We do want documents released on all meetings related to the planned AYSO soccer use at this site. We will continue to gather feedback as you continue to develop the site without due community support or acknowledging our preferred opportunities and constraints. As noted at City Council and Park Development meetings, we will uphold Passive recreation as more appropriate for this site, and the central location as an ideal location for a fenced nature garden that can better support the increased housing density you have planned. We continue to await fulfillment of our online requests for planning documentation on this specific CIP, and we will continue to collect information from our community on the constraints until you perform your due diligence and outreach.
