2024-11-19 CC Agenda - Public Communication related to Item D13 - Parking Permit Program2024-11-19 CC AGENDA PACKET PUBLIC COMMUNICATION RELATED TO ITEM D13 - PARKING PERMIT PROGRAM From: Teri Hog oboom <teri_hogoboom@gmail.com> Date: November 18, 2024 at 6:42:39 PM PST To: "Sassoon, Elias" <esassoon@elsegundo.org>, ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS <ALLELECTEDOFFICIALS@elsegundo.org> Subject: Preferential Parking Permit Program for Zone 3 Hello All, I am a resident at 501 Washington Street and it is my understanding that the parking permits for our area will be addressed at the City Council meeting scheduled on 11/19/2024. I am writing with my thoughts about the parking permits. Thank you for taking the time to consider my thoughts and opinions. 1. I am in favor of parking permits for our area (Zone 3, I believe) because of current issues (cars parked all day due to the driver walking somewhere to work; cars parked all weekend because people park and get an Uber to LAX - I actually see them being picked up by a ride -share driver with suitcases in hand) as well as future issues (proposed multi -family housing projects very near Zone 3). 2. I am in favor of permits being enforced on a schedule, NOT 24/7 as the signs currently indicate. Like other parking permit zones in El Segundo, permit parking is enforced Monday - Friday for an hour in the morning and an hour in the early afternoon, possibly even overnight. The current 24/7 permit signage does not allow for my 4 adult children to visit me at the same time as I don't have parking permits for all of them. We also host a mid -week church function and are unable to provide permits for all our guests. During the 6-month trial period my neighbors have been gracious to let us borrow their permits; however, this doesn't seem a permanent solution. 3. In the event the city decides to continue with the permits and the 24/7 enforcement, I'd like to suggest looking into software that I understand Palos Verdes Estates uses with their permit areas where the residents are able to print their own temporary permits for such occasions as I have described above. I am thankful to the City for allowing the 6-month trial period for our area and taking seriously the parking issues that have been becoming a nuisance for residents. I have noticed less cars in our area and the problems listed in #1 above seem to have been mostly alleviated! Again, thank you for taking the time to listen to proposed nuance changes to the program. Sincerely, Teri Hogoboom 501 Washington Street 310.529.6936
