Background
• The Planning Commission: Five El Segundo residents appointed by City Council.
• The Planning Commission's major roles:
• Affirm Director decisions on AUPs, Adjustments, and Interpretations
• Approve land use applications, including conditional use permits (CUPs), subdivisions, and
variances.
• Make recommendations to City Council on Zone Code amendments, General Plan
amendments, adoption of specific plans, and related development projects.
• Provide input to staff on Planning -related matters.

• Housing Element community meetings
o Four at the Planning Commission level since Sept. 2021
o Certified by the State on July 15, 2024
• Six Study Sessions with Planning staff:
o Smoky Hollow Specific Plan (SHSP)
o Contributed to the SHSP update
o Three regarding the Downtown Specific Plan (DTSP)
o Contributed to the updated DTSP
o Two regarding development standards for the R-3 and Mixed -Use
overlays
