Subject: Urho Saari Swim Stadium
Dear City Council Members:
The Urho Saari Swim Stadium is a one -of -a -kind historic facility with a rich history within the El Segundo
community. For this very reason South Bay Sports, Health & Recreation is excited to be involved in the
community effort to restore the architecturally significant facility to its original splendor. As Chairman of
South Bay Sports, Health & Recreation, I will state that our non-profit organization is committed to
raising necessary funds from the business community to make the spectacular renovation a reality
without financially overburdening the City. The restored Plunge will be a valuable resource for the entire
community. The Board of the South Bay Sports, Health & Recreation enthusiastically supports agenda
item D9.

For the March 5th Council meeting.
Thank you,
Julie Stolnack
City Council Members;
Please do not delay the Urho Saari Plunge renovation any longer. I strongly urge you to move
forward and approve with a YES vote tonight. Your community has waited long enough for this
project to happen, we have been more than patient, and it is time to get it done.
Do not listen to outsiders, such as the Coastal Citizens group, listen to your community
members, those who truly have a vested interest in what happens in this town for generations
to come. This pool is not just about the El Segundo High School Eagles swim and water polo
teams and whether this pool works for competition. It is about something bigger, it is about
community and where we learn to swim, where our seniors can exercise and socialize, where
our babies maybe take their first dip. Back in my day, it's where Frank the bus driver picked us
up from Center Street School and drove us to our required swim lessons with Mrs. MacDonald
and our rite of passage was jumping off the high dive, every kid of my generation has that
memory from the Plunge. We do not need another 50-meter outdoor pool for competitive
games, we need our Plunge to be renovated for our memories to continue in the center of our
community for all of us to enjoy for years and years to come.
Please vote YES tonight and let's get it done!!
Sincerely,
Julie D. Stolnack

Subject: I support the Plunge Renovation - Agenda item D9
Dear El Segundo City Council Members,
I am writing to express my strong support for agenda item D9, the Urho Saari Swim Stadium/Plunge
Renovation Project. I learned how to swim at The Plunge and I would love for my daughter to do the same. I
am not only a resident of El Segundo but also a teacher at Center Street School. I love El Segundo because of
our community and The Plunge truly fosters community. The Plunge is an integral part of our community that
provides year-round aquatic programming for individuals of all ages. As a resident and educator of El
Segundo, I believe that investing in the renovation of the Plunge is not only a preservation of our city's history
but also a commitment to its future.
The Plunge holds a special place in the hearts of many residents, offering vital aquatic programming such as
life-saving swim lessons. Its heated, indoor pool provides a safe and accessible space for generations of
children to learn how to swim, a skill that is invaluable for their safety and well-being. Moreover, the Plunge
serves as a hub for youth, adult, and senior programming, fostering a sense of community and belonging
among residents of all ages.
The proposed renovation project presents an exciting opportunity to revitalize the Plunge, ensuring its
continued relevance and accessibility for future generations. By modernizing its facilities and enhancing its
amenities, we can attract more visitors and foster a sense of pride and belonging among residents.
While El Segundo already boasts a competition pool for competitive swim and water polo programs at The El
Segundo Aquatic Center (ESAC), the Plunge fills a crucial gap by providing year-round swim lessons and
programming for individuals who may not be interested in competitive sports but still seek to engage in
aquatic activities for recreation and fitness.
By supporting the renovation of the Plunge, the City Council has the opportunity to not only preserve an
important part of El Segundo's history but also to ensure its continued relevance and accessibility for future
generations. I urge you to prioritize funding and resources for this essential project, recognizing its
significance in promoting health, safety, and community well-being.
Thank you for considering my input on this matter. I look forward to seeing the Plunge renovated and
revitalized as a cornerstone of our community's future.
Sincerely,
Danielle Hoppe
