Subject: Stop the El Segundo Plunge Renovation
Hello,
With all due respect for the facility and the considerable time and expenditure focused on
renovating the Plunge, this is the wrong direction for the City of El Segundo, EI Segundo
High School Athletics, and the aquatics community at large. With an estimated cost of $15
million, the renovation already exceeds the price of the El Segundo/Wiseburn. Aquatic
Center at $13.7 million.
For 15 million dollars, El Segundo deserves to have outdoor, competition depth and
instructional pools, not a costly renovation of an outdated, indoor facility. El Segundo High
School swim meets and water polo games should be held in the heart of the city, where
loyal fans and supporters can join them to celebrate a tradition of excellence in and out of
the pool.
To properly honor Urho Saari and El Segundo's tradition of excellence in aquatics the
facility should be raised and a new, outdoor facility should be built in its place that properly
addresses the needs of the community.
Thank you,
Alex Strand

H i,
My name is Matt Burton and I've been a South Bay resident my entire life. I played water
polo at Mira Costa and then at USC and now with Coastal Masters in El Segundo.
The plunge is in desperate need of repair but renovating it without changing the depth is
not the answer. You are wasting money to save a pool that will not meet the minimum
requirements of competition.
To say pool time is hard to come by in the South Bay is a massive understatement. Please,
use our tax dollars wisely and give El Segundo water polo players an adequate pool to play
in.
