Dear Mr. Allen,
El Segundo Public Library is a gem in our community. People from many surrounding communities
also come to El Segundo to enjoy the facility along with the wonderful programs that ESPL provides.
As a supporter of our Library, member of the Friends, History Committee, and volunteer, I have some
concerns. Parking around the Library has become a major problem. Not only for patrons using the
services, but also staff and volunteers.
Parking in front of the library on Mariposa, on Main Street, also the lot on Mariposa and Main all have
some restrictions. Half of the Mariposa lot is designated for Library Staff (as should be) with no time
limit. The other areas mentioned have a two-hour time limit. Also, in the past couple of weeks there
were parking spaces eliminated to accommodate golf cart type vehicles. I haven't seen any cart type
vehicles parked there, but I have seen a Police car and one very large pickup truck. I personally have
observed staff searching for a parking spot, sometimes having to move their cars every two hours.
often, I have to park on Pine east of Richmond Street when I visit the facility or to volunteer. I have
also seen parents trekking with children and library books because they couldn't find reasonable
parking.
These parking restrictions are not being enforced. Students from El Segundo High School are using
the spaces provided as their all -day school parking lot. I believe that this situation is detrimental to our
library's use.
Libraries are very important assets to great communities. Please, monitor and enforce the parking
surrounding the library.
