Despite Main Street having a limit of 25 mph, numerous vehicles exceed this speed, especially between sections needing more traffic control. Furthermore, pedestrian accidents have occurred in the crosswalk over the past few years, with near -miss incidents being common. Implementing a four-way stop for those turning left from Oak onto Main would significantly enhance safety and efficiency for residents in our community. We must take proactive steps to address these safety issues. Many of us have concerns about the safety of our children crossing that area, and it's our collective responsibility as a community to work together to ensure the safety of all of the people in El Segundo. Over the past eight years, we've witnessed numerous pedestrian accidents and near -misses at this intersection. This long standing issue poses a significant threat to our neighborhood's safety, especially given its role as a main crosswalk for high school and Richmond school students. The heart of the problem lies in speeding vehicles on Main Street, and lack of clear visibility to this intersection along with the speeds at which drivers travel in this area endangers all pedestrians at this intersection. I strongly urge the installation of a stoplight or at least a stop sign at this crosswalk. This step would force drivers to slow down, enhancing pedestrian safety and reducing accidents. Please consider our plea during the city council meeting tomorrow. Our community's safety, particularly our students', is at stake. Sincerely, Tyler Goth-Kovall
