Subject: Public Comment for 3/21/23 City Council Meeting
Dear Mayor Boyles, Mayor Pro Tern Pimentel, and Councilmembers Pirsztuk, Giroux, and Baldino,
I write to you as an engaged resident of El Segundo and a member of Sweat Equity Alliance (or SEA Change).
I wanted to thank you for your recent action to ensure that DEI Committee meetings are recorded and made accessible
to the public.
When trying to access the last DEI meeting (which was cancelled for the umpteenth time because of a lack of quorum),
we learned that City staffs plan is to record DEI meetings via Zoom and later upload them to the internet, but not to
make the Zoom webinar accessible to the public live. This was inconsistent with my understanding of the direction given
at the last meeting to address this topic -- though admittedly the record is a bit unclear on the subject.
I'd encourage you to direct staff to make the Zoom webinar link accessible to the public live. It would take literally 5
minutes, one time, for staff to edit the agenda or website to include the Zoom webinar link. Then, members of the
public could watch the meeting live, rather than having to wait until the next day to watch it.
The current plan is certainly better than nothing, but it unnecessarily delays access to the meeting to those who are not
able to make the meeting in person.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Best regards,
Anya Goldstein
