If you scroll below you will see 4 snap shots of accidents that that happened between February and March 2022. Last week on April 13th and 14th there were two more accidents that occurred, one was a fender bender and the other was a child/pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle. Now this morning April 20, 2022 1 witnessed another child heading to the middle school getting hit by a car on Grand Avenue and Maryland which I reported to the school and to the police department. This is a total of 7 accidents in 3 months. Everyone from the Principals at Center Street, El Segundo Middle Schools, School Board and the El Segundo police department are aware of this and apparently nothing can be done unless city council is aware of the problems which I'm pretty sure you are aware of since everyone has most likely driven around this area to pick up their child from school at some point. The areas of major concern for our students and community during school hours are Grand Ave and Center Street, Grand Ave and Maryland, Center Street and Pine Ave, California & Street and Mariposa Ave. The major concern for all other parts of the day would be Grand Ave and Maryland which 6 of the seven accidents I've talked about have happened since February 15th, 2022. My biggest fear of a person getting hit happened before my eyes this morning and fortunately it was a major injury involved however At this point I'm foreseeing a death happening because this problem will not fix itself. I'm concerned as a driver as well that eventually I may hit someone due to all this chaos. This is not a fluke, this is a serious situation that needs to be handled and fixed immediately. Please help... I just don't want to have to wait until the next city council meeting in May to discuss this issue. Thank You! Gonzales <nikia.gonzales@Rmail.com> Sent: Thursday, March 17, 2022 12:15 PM To: Sassoon, Elias <esassoon@elsegundo.or > Subject: Car Accidents Hello Mr Sassoon, I'm reaching out today in regards to the four accidents that have happened on the corner of Grand and Maryland (hilltop park area). As of February 15th 2022 there as been four car accidents which have occurred between 10pm-12am. This is very concerning because we know (for a fact) one of the four accidents involved the driver to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Based on the time of the night these accidents are occurring it leads me to believe these are all DUI cases. I live at 901 East Grand and each of these accidents have been feet away from my home, and have caused damage to parked vehicles. I am frequently walking my dog at this time of night and I'm concerned the next accident will cause a pedestrian to be caught in the crossfire. This has been going on for years and I addressed this issue with city council in 2015 and nothing has been changed. Now it has gotten worse. What can we do to remedy this issue? Are you the correct person to speak to or could you refer me to someone who can help. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
