Subject: Comment on Item D9 - Cannabis
My name is Jay Resplandor and I am a long time El Segundo resident. I request this comment be read aloud at the
meeting tonight.
While the City Council has limited options with the cannabis citizen initiative, it would be foolish for the Council to
propose it's own commercial cannabis ordinance.
A city cannabis ordinance would still be heavy litigated against. Look at the 15 or so cases in Pasadena and other
litigation in other cities. You will cost us taxpayers money to take this own as a city initiative. The agenda report says
that the initiative proponents may withdraw their voter initiative if the city council foolishly takes on their own initiative.
Will the proponents pay the city's legal fees for the litigation it will certainly face???? Probably not.
The businesses that don't get licenses will sue you whether you have a point system or not.
It is better to just let the voters decide their take on cannabis businesses through the citizen petition. A city ordinance
would take more time and taxpayer money.
Respectfully,
Jay Resplandor
