Fwd: Amendment to Top Golf Agreement
Attachment 1 - The Lakes Fact Sheet.pdf; Attachment 2 - Lakes Comparison.pdf

Subject: Amendment to Top Golf Agreement
El Segundo City Council Members,
I have questions regarding what seems to be the never ending redesign of The Lakes Golf Course by Top
Golf, most of it coming after the Golf Sub -Committee had been dis-banded. The Lakes Fact Sheet
(attachment 1, page 3) shows a design with one par 4 (the old #4 before all the redesign) going away
from PCH and up the hill. It also shows a long, approx. 190 yard par 3 finishing hole, which would play
into the prevailing westerly wind, but has currently been reduced in length. This design was done by
Jason Straka of Fry Straka Golf. Fry Straka Golf has designed a course (Erin Hills) that has hosted a U.S.
Open Championship. I'm not sure if Top Golf has a U.S. Open course to its credit.
If Top Golf and their architect are so worried about safety, why did they design a par 4 first hole and
then worry about people hitting balls onto PCH (attachment 2, proposed exhibit 2)? Also, if they a
concerned about safety why is the "new" #8 tucked in behind the Top Golf range where you have to
walk back towards the people teeing off on #8 (attachment 2, proposed exhibit 2).
Page 3 of the amendment to the Top Golf Agreement (Staff Presentations, Item Number D.11) mentions
other par 3 courses. The Hay at Pebble Beach is $65 (50% off for replay), Bandon Preserve is 13 holes,
maybe Top Golf would give up some of their range area so The Lakes could expand, and while we're at
it, can Top Golf get me and some friends on the par 3 at Augusta National (maybe a week before the
Masters in April).
Bottom line, The Lakes was a great practice facility, let's hope it stays that way.
Respectfully,
Charlie Krolak
